My dump valves are hard to open and close. Has anybody had this problem and how do you fix it. This on a 2011 Seville. BobG

Bob, I have read that if your tanks are emptyand you will put a few gallons of water down the toilet or sink/shower drains then add about 2 cups of vegetable oil and then go out and open and close the valves a few times to drain it should solve the problem. I have yet to have to try this but have read several times it works. To me it would be well worth a try instead of having to lower the underbelly covering and install new valves or try and lube the ones you have. I also shoot silicon spray down the cables at the handles from inside the utility area every so often. Hope some of this helps.

Bob, if you try this let me know how it worked. We have a big trip in November and December and I was planning on doing this to all our tanks before we left, then dump them when we got setup. I have had a black tank valve stick shut and it was not fun working on it in an RV site laying on your back.

I have the same issue on my 09... May try the vegetable oil trick and see what that does for me. Not sure if my problem is valves or cables, but due to the routing of the cables you can't really lube them except for the first couple inches without a lot of work.

My Black and Grey were stuck open and the dealer that I purchased the unit from told me to bring it back and he would fix the problem at no charge.. Just got it back yesterday, they had to put everything new in. The old ones were froze open and couldnot be repaired.. The tech said they had problems with this.. But I am going to try the oil once a month and see what happens. Thanks hope this will fix our problem Bob G

Al, we have a couple of trips coming up in November and December and I intend to put the oil in the tanks before one of those trips. I will report back of my results.

Hi Bob,

The black valve on my 2010 Seville was sticking and I pulled it hard and the cable broke. I just had it in at Candan RV in Langley for replacement. It cost $645.15! What a shock. Have you tried anything that worked to loosen your valves?

Peter, I just replied in your other post with a link to this post. I had a black tank valve stick open and had to repair it at a camp site. I was lucky and got it freed up but it was not a pleasant job. I am putting oil in my tanks on a trip we will make in December and will report back on the results.

After seeing another tank valve post I realized I never posted back on my results from puttingvegetableoil in our tanks on this post. I did this prior to us leaving on a trip we took in December and once we were setup at the first place we stopped I drained the tanks. So far the valves are working much smoother so for me it worked.

Keith,
Thanks for reporting back on this...I guess after I dump and flush the tanks the first time this spring I will give this a try. I'll pick up some cheap vegetable oil at Aldi's and put it in the camper next time I'm out to check on it so I don't forget to do this in the spring. The to-do list gets bigger all the time

I also added a couple of gallons of water to each tank so it and the oil would slosh around the tanks while we were traveling. I figured coating the inside of the tanks would also keep "things" from sticking to anything.

I have said many times here as this sticking valves seem to be a problem that just comes up over and over. I had a black valve not close completely and every time I would remove the cap ... Well you know. Get one of these twist on valves and you will not have the problem and you can wait to fix it later on your schedule.

The best 25 bucks you will spend.

Our previous trailer had the cables that were routed to the
tanks in the enclosed underbelly. There is something that I have been able to
do to lube the cables.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

You can buy something called a cable lubricator, and a can
of cable lube. You simply attach the lubricator to the end of the cable, push
in the straw for the pressurized can of cable lube and spray. Motorcycle
dealers sell these items.

The cables of the trailer were actually larger diameter than
those of a motorcycle, but I was able to clamp the lubricator on and it worked
fine. Because the can is pressurized it forces the lube through the cable to
the other end. I could actually here it make a bubbling/fizzing sound in the
underbelly.

This may work for other people to get their cables smoother and
as general maintenance for the cables. If anyone does this wear eye protection
and put a rag over the lubricator/straw, it can get forced out and on you.
