Anyone else have a problem with their RCA surround sound system shorting out. My second one fried itself last night. First one shorted after 9 mos, started smoking and had that acrid electical smell. Unplugged it immediately. Was on my way to the factory for other work and they replaced it, no questions asked. Well last night my wife was cooking dinner and yelled at me that something electrical just fried in the trailer and made a loud noise like static. Went inside, was a slight smell of something burning, not dinner, checked all the electical items. Found the surround sound plugged in with no power light on. Fireplace is on the same circuit and it was still working properly. Unit is now out of warranty, but still plan on contacting the factory as to be honest, we have never used the RCA unit once as we normally don't watch movies on DVD or listen to the radio inside. I'm thinking these things coulkd be a fire hazard. Regards, Tim

I've not had that kind of issue. Mine has been with getting the unit to play via the HDMI to the TV instead of composite video & getting audio into the unit from the TV receiver. I'm not completely sure just how good those things are.

We don't watch TV or DVD's as a rule but do use the stereo with music on occasion. I think I may unplug mine just in case, at least when we're not in the camper. BTW, do you have a surge strip on yours or is it just into the outlet.

One addition I wish I had negotiated into the purchase of ours is the hardwired surge suppressor in the input power. What I think I may do is put a small surge suppressor on each outlet in the TV cabinet or figure out somewhere to put a good suppressor that I can plug all the electronics into.

I've tried to do a bit of research on that particular RCA unit but have found very little information.

I had an RCA system in mine, the first one quit working, the 2nd one sounded really crappy, so I threw it out and bought a Bose wave, if you enjoy music the wave is fantastic, when we finally sell this unit the wave will not go with it, easy in and out...infact we use it in the house during the winter....we have been looking at some new units and they all use the really cheap stuff, hardly worth replacing
