We ordered the standard electric awning option with our KF30SB. During the PDI our dealer showed us a new feature they now have and that is the arms on one side (your choice of side) will drop down if water collects to allow the water to pour off. The dealer stated if you don't have that feature you can contact the awning manufacturer and they will send upgrade parts free. `

A&E Dometic has a upgrade kit for owners, the auto-dumping feature makes me more likely to pick an electric awning on the next rig I get.

Can you still anchor them down to protect from wind gusts?

I have the A&E electric awnng and it just has a manually adjustable arm on either side that allows you to tip the awning one way or another to allow water to drain off. Is this what is meant by automatic dumping? If this is the way it is then you should be able to use tie downs. The only ones that I know that you can't use tie downs on are the ones with the wind sensors that close the awning automatically when the wind gets to a certain speed.

I was under the impression that if there was excessive weight on the dump side that the arms would partially fold and let the water run off without manual intervention. Guess we need to hear from someone with experience.

My understanding on our PDI was we MANUALLY slide the arm (which ever side you want) and snug-up a thumb screw esssentially titling the awning just like the "old" manual style.

my awning has 2 struts at each end of the awning when water pools on the awning it will drop the awning about 6" and the water will run off, we also have the same tilt adjustment with the screws on each side, but that is not the dump feature, we do not use any tie downs, the electric awning is not as strong as the manual type,,we also don't use any party lites, we never leave the unit with the awning out and it gets put away at night before we go to bed....lots easier to be safer than sorry.....
