Steep driveway

Long time since I've logged on; I hope everyone is well. I have a 30SB and I need to pull it up a steep drive. I'm not worried the the truck will pull it up (I have a 2500 Dodge PU)what concerns me is the transition from the main road up the drive. I'd hate to get stuck with my wheels off the ground. Does anyone have any experience with their CR and a steep drive? Thanks guys!

I have quite a large angle point at the transition point of my driveway with the main road. I built (2) 4 foot planks W/ gap supports to span the area and it raises the rear end just enough to keep it from scraping the bumper. My DW places the planks just as I'm ready to head up the hill.

This might give you an idea if it will drag.



With help, pull a string tight from the lowest part in the rear (bumper, jacks, what ever hangs down the farthest) to the tread of the rear axle tire. Place a piece of cardboard or such that is about 4 X 2 feetor so on edge on the ground with half in front of the tire and half behind. Use the string and draw a line on the cardboard along the string. This approximates you "angle of departure" for the trailer. Cut the cardboard on this line and discard the narrow triangle piece.



Now lay the template on the driveway with the "V" at the transition. If the upward angles part doesn't touch the road you might not drag.

if its that steep you might also want to consider putting your truck in 4wd. or if its a ford like mine you can put it in 4 low and dont lock your hubs. that will give you 2 wheel low. this is if your truck is 4wd. you can overheat a transmission pretty easily.

What's difficult with my steep driveway is that I have to back up, or push the Cruiser up the 25% grade. At least it's not very long.
