<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /></span>

First look

at the three photos</span>

The

switches I use are Double Pole Double Throw with centre OFF (DPDT w C off) 125V

ca 6 amps</span>

The current

draw is ; High two bulbs :1.5 amps</span>

</span>High one

bulb :</span>0.75 amp</span>

</span></span>Low two bulbs :</span>0.25 amp</span>

I used home

extension wire </span>#16 or 18 to wire

everything.</span>

</span>Never put a fuse higher than 15 amperes </span>on a lighting circuit </span></span>

How to

modify a 2 bulbs 12 volts fixture to a 3 intensities fixture for $ 1.00.</span>

Buy the

switches in a surplus electronics parts for 1.00 or less if you buy 10 or 20 or

maybe on internet because you will transform many fixtures.</span>

</span></span>

Take the

fuse off the circuit. </span>

Remove the

fixt. </span>By sliding the plastic lenses and

unscrewing </span>the screws.</span>

Disconnect

the wires connecting the fixture..If it is a crimped connector, cut the wires

close to it, you will use twist connectors to reconnect .</span>

Drill a

hole on the side of the fixt.close to the ceiling to give maximum clearance for

your head(see photo) </span>Check clearance

inside the fixture too.</span>

You have to

use a double pole double throw </span>switch ;

if you use two separate single pole double throw switches good </span>tluck</span>

With a DPDT

without the center off, </span>wire the O.S. on

position D and loose the one bulb possibility</span>

One bulb

has </span>3 wires; one on one side and two on

the other side. Cut the shorter of the two.</span>

Solder a

jumper between L1 and L2,,</span>

I did not

twist the wires around the pins, I just contact and solder ; it held no problem

from 2004.</span>

When

finished check that soldered spots don’t touch then </span>

</span>check with a portable drill battery up to 14

volts if everything works ok.</span>

I am

explaining what I did without problems on more than 50 mods butI am not

responsible for your errors or defective material or errors on the text or

schematics.</span>

If

unsure </span>contact a licenced technician on

RV wiring code..</span>

If

something is not clear ask me </span>questions.

Don’t be shy. </span>Good luck and keep the

beers for after the job. It tastes so much better then.

</span>

Just to be clear, this project was to take the original 2 bulb fixtures and be able to dim down either 1 or 2 bulbs?

It's a little confusing on the purpose.

Thx.

Hi Denism28,

Nice mod. So, with the original swich(O.S.) off and the new switchat center off, we get no light. From here, I'm going to attempt a truth table:

O.S. | New | Result

Off| C| All Off (OFF)

Off | L | 2 bulbs in series (LOW)

Off | H | 1 bulb (MED)

On | H | 2 bulbs in parallel (HIGH)

Is this right? I've converted all of my lights to LED so I won't be able to try this one.

Bob You get 3 intensities: 2 bulbs as before max lighting
1bulb only half lighting
2 bulbs in series very cosy candlelight type lighting

You are pretty close. with O.S.on or off on C all off
O.S. on or off on L candlelight
O.S. on on H 2 bulbs
O.S. of on H1 bulb
I think it would work just the same with LEDS, give it a try on the workbench I dont see why not.

The LED option will most likely become more prevalent as Crossroads is suppose to switch over to 100% LED both inside and out....
