Purchased a new Cruiser this week. Looking for pictures and/or ideas on how you have organized your basement.

I was thinking about some shelves in the front door, but what have you tried and like or would like to try?

Will be looking to store camp chairs, dutch over, hose and cords, hotdog sticks, campfire pots and pans, etc. I might even put my generator in there pending on the ideas.

I think that I am going to build some shelves inside of the front compartment, just on the left hand side. Then install some hooks to hang my extension cords by the battery on the right.

Larry, On my 2007 30SK, (not positive on the later models) you need to maintain some access to what's behind the wall towards the back of the storage area. The electrical converter is there as well as the furnace ducts etc. Just a thought. I use plastic bins and also carpeted the whole area to help keep things from moving around when traveling.

We use stackable plactic bins from Wal-mart. They have wheels for easy roll out and the wheels on the top bin fit into a grove on the bottom bin so that they don't move around. We also store our two honda 2000 generators in the front compartment.

Take a look at page 5 of this thread and look at "outside storage compartment for small items". It looks like your front storage area is about the same as mine. I installed two sliding drawers with many small areas sectioned off. I would not give up those drawers for anything. They take very little room away from the normal big items I store there (air compressor, jack, etc). If this is your first camper you will soon find that you have many small items that you have to have and this is the perfect place to store them. I am a klutz wood worker but still got 'er done

Yes! Those drawers are on the top of my list already. Once the weather warms up enough to get back out there, I will be adding these. My last couple of 5th wheels have suffered from outside storage envy. With the Cruiser, I will be able to really take advantage of the space without having to pack every open corner just to get the basics to fit.

I considered buying one of thse drawers that is on runners that you could pull out from either door in the front but when I got to looking at them I wasn't happy with that whole idea. If you have any plumbing or vents hanging down the stuff in your slide out drawer has to be lower than that or the drawer becomes just a storage bin. I used 3/8 plywood and on the awnig side compartment built a storage unit that holds my chairs wood blocks and several odds and ends. This works much better than yhe drawer would of for me still working on other side.

We are wanting tomake a slideout forour Yamaha 2800i generator (90-92 lbs loaded with gas) in our front basement storage. We would not run it there, but it would be carried there. We are in our middle sixties and lifting it in and out of the basement is a little hard. We took it out west for six weeks last year and taking it in and out everyday was difficult. We can lift it, it is the bending over and putting it into the basement that hurts. We were afraid to leave it out when we were not there as we were in a Nat. Park and no one around. Our side doors are not tall enough. I have heard people have made slides, but have not seen a picture, does anyone have any ideas.

tennlady:
We camp a lot in the NF camp grounds. Once I unload the Yamaha out of the PU and get it under the 5er, it stays there until we are ready to leave. I have a cable with loops on both ends and I just get it around something solid and secure on the 5er then snap a good padlock on. I made a cart this winter for it to set on. Has pretty good size caster wheels. That way if it's necessary to move it around, I don't have to lift it.

Sorry Everyone - photBucket has changed or I forgot how to post again.

Had a rough year - still recovering from a badly broken back and a ruptured spleen.

Will post more soon.

Send an e-mail address for more pictures of gen setup.

In our front storage area we purchased a closet wiring shelving (you can cut to fit) and brackets. Turned the shelf upside down so the lip is facing up,then youritems won't slide off. And mounted on the back wall. This worked really well for us.

Try the LINK now - it works again! (June 4th 2009)
Very similar to my setup with a Honda 6500 EUis generator.
I mounted my generator on a swivel table to be able to direct exhaust gases away from trailer. I did not wire a cord into wiring panel - I just use shore power cord and attach it directly into generator with appropriate adapter plug. Honda generators are pricy but are 56 Db which is very quiet. Runs all electrical needs including two ACs and convection microwave. ECO mode works very well.

Project is still a work in progress function. Need to paint wood platform. Installed a sealed on all sides and top box around storage compartment to prevent gas and carbon monoxide from entering basement of trailer - used some old formica panelling with caulking to seal gaps (CrossRoads does not build square and true trailers - had to custom fit all panels.)
Now working on a lock mechanism that will guarentee generator will not exit thru doors while traveling around right-hand turns - reason for additional tie-down strap in last picture. Pictures should show threaded rod that assists in supporting front edge of platform by tying to frame above - when generator is extended, a heavy load is placed on front edge. 2X4 supports in back prevent tipping of unit - base to ceiling above - unit is only wood screwed to basement floor for position only - did not want to remove belly pan to install bolt thru floor on my Seville.
Unit is easy to setup - carrying 50 AMP cord is much more difficult! In future may have to consider direct wire with transfer switch.</span>
