Best bike rack

I need to haul 4 adult sized bikes on the rear of the TT. Tow vehicle is SUV, so rear of TT is the only option for me. Either adding a receiver hitch and buying a rack, or build a fold down rack type. Has anyone had experience with both?

I've been researching my best option - it's a winter project now. I'm staying away from rear bumper mounted, just to be safe. Has anyone used one of these fold down bike racks? It seems they would be more sturdy than a receiver type. Mounting this would be about as much work as adding a receiver hitch.

Any experience with this type of bike rack? I would build my own, but similar to this LCI model.

Thanks for your input.

best bike racks come from Arvika.com (Quebec Canada). Phone them and ask for Guy. He will guide you through making the best choices. He has done so for me twice, first time for my tt and later for my 5th wheel. Excellent design and ultra strongly built.

We had a receiver hitch fabricated and installed by a welding shop that was recommended by our dealer. They did a very nice job and we use a Thule tray style bike rack where the bike tires sit in a tray and are locked down. The system is secure and stable. The Thule bike rack fits into the receiver hitch and a bolt/pin tightens it up so there is no wobble. This way we can use the bike rack on our camper or any vehicle with a receiver hitch. It works well for us.

Thanks for the input. I am afraid of the wobbling, especially with 4 bikes. That's why I'm considering the fold down tray type. Has anyone had a camper with this type of carrier? It attaches on both sides at the frame rails, I would expect this would be more sturdy than a receiver hitch type.

You can buy a 4" receiver hitch on Ebay that locks down with a screw in pin so there is very little wobble. I have a two biker I'm very pleased with but can't tell you the brand. Sorry. If you go with a receiver type get the 4", not the 2" and be sure the pin is designed to screw it down tight.

That is the type bolt/pin we have for our Thule rack and there is no wobble on the rack.

What ever rack you decide on ...do this as there is no wobble at all after i put on the racket straps. easy to do. Screw 2 eyescrews into the corner of camper.

We have this Lippert Bike Rack. It's for two bikes only but it might give you some ideas. We love this rack.
