Bumper Grill Upgrade

After a frustrating camping trip cleaning and trying to cook on the bumper grill that came with our Sunset trail something had to change! I’m not sure if anyone else has come up with a substitute using the stock bumper mount? I had a Coleman RoadTrip but I was reluctant to drag two grills camping, attached are some photos of my hack using a few things lying around the garage.

FYI – I did run the grill to make sure the plywood did not get warm and it was just fine. The grill is meant to be used as a table top as an option.

I like it, nice work.
So the pipes on the table slide over the posts on the swing arm? How stable is it? Seems like it might rock back and forth.

Any issues using the low pressure gas from the camper?

I own the same grill but decided to use a Weber I also own, as it was smaller. Should it fail, your idea would be my next version.

I used 1/2 pipe which fits nicely over the post, so it doesn't rock at all. My concern was the extra weight on the arm but that even seems to be okay.

I did eliminate the regulator that comes with the grill and use the the campers, this is the 4th trailer using the same same setup and it work fine.

Your table looks great. I'll probably do the same. I plan on getting one of the weber Q's. Not really clear on the regulator though. When adding a different BBQ, is there a need to add or delete anything else besides having a quick connect added to the BBQ?

The regulator on the Weber needs to be removed as low pressure is supplied to the grill using the RV regulator.

I am going to duplicate your setup, could you send me the dimensions that you cut the plywood and I was also curious what you covered it with?

Thanks!

Nice!

I have an older road trip grill but hate loading it up, cleaning etc. I only use bring it for extended camping as it works great with my iron griddles and the such.

I might have to consider this and an option.

WOW! Excellent Setup! I have the same mount on my Bumper and I did not want to use the cheap factory provided Grill. So far I have been using my Weber Q 1000 on my slide out Kitchen Counter and was hoping to come up with a better solution.

You're idea with the piping has definitely sparked a few ideas in my head!

I made it roughly the same size as the grill and trimmed some material to lighten it up a bit. I made some stops (painted red in the picture) and placed them on the inside of the grill feet so the grill wouldn't be knock off the platform easily. I can get you measurement tonight if you have the same grill?

It depends on the Grill you have but I recently did this on a WeberQ 1000 Grill...

Weber Q RV Quick Connect Kit - propanegear

The basic jist of it is to unscrew the Regulator and attach either a hose or a gas quick connect valve. They also sell a female fitting you can fit to the regulator, This allows you to hookup the regulator if you ever want to use a propane tank or propane bottles one day.

Look around their Site, they have fittings for most popular grills on the Market

I see what you did there with the feet... I will have to figure out something similar for mine. I am going to be doing this with a WeberQ so I imagine the dimensions might be different.

But overall you Sir have inspired me!

Bumper grill set up

Hi, I have the same kind of set up on mine for years only mine is from Bills bumper Q. I have the Weber 1200 hooked directly to the propane on the camper. I love mine and the weber grill is the best grill I have ever had. No flare ups and cooks great.

Check out this earlier thread:

I did the mod on post#31-it is very convenient to be able to hook up directly to the trailer gas OR use the quick connect with regulator and connect to a disposable propane tank.
