Ceiling light switch
As we're nearing our third year of owning and driving the wheels off of 'Harvey', our beloved Zinger 291RL, I decided it was time to rectify one of the little niggles that has irritated me from day one.
We use our midships entry door for 99% of our comings and goings. It opens into a small passageway behind which is the bathroom, to the left the main living area and to the right, via a sliding door, is the bedroom.
At night, with the blinds drawn the bedroom is dark, and little light bleeds through from the living area. The factory fitted LED light fixture is centered directly over the bed and is operated by a little plastic switch on the housing.
At a hair under six feet I can just about reach the switch without clambering on the pillowtop, Mrs. R needs a ladder.
I had previously added LED gooseneck reading lights to the inside face of each of our bedside wardrobes, they are independently powered and switched, but even those are a stretch when you're not in bed.
There was nothing for it, I had to do something.
I prudently sought approval from management.........What I actually said was "Honey, can you reach the ceiling in Harvey?" to which she replied somewhat suspiciously "What are you up to?"
"Oh nothing, I just wondered" Before I had to answer the logical follow-up question, I made haste my escape to Harvey.
I removed the bedroom LED ceiling fitting, probed around in the roof to see what space was up there and discovered a route through the roof trusses to a point directly over the sliding entry door.
I set about the ceiling with a box cutter and a straight edge to create an opening for a spare white household rocker switch I had lying around. Splicing about five feet of lamp wire into the 12 volt light circuit couldn't have been easier. With the fitting switch ON, it can now be controlled from the doorway ceiling switch, YAY! And once we're snuggled up in bed it can still be turned off at the fitting. We just have to remember to turn it back on at the fitting in the morning otherwise the ceiling switch is redundant.
I know it's not much, but it still counts as a mod.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE.
