Comtemplating a Water Heater Upgrade...

I am contemplating installing a hybrid drain plug water heater kit to help my existing electric heater and LP so we can have hot water faster. 6 gallons for a family isn't much.

Wondering if 1) it will work directly wired with a grounded line to the post and 2)it will last give there are already two other sources of heat into the tank.

cheap upgrade to have hot H20 faster IMHO.

New here but have over 20 years TT experience. Do almost everything myself as I store and use my camper 250 miles away. My last TT had a LP only heater and I asked several different sources about the drain plug heaters. I've been told by several RV techs to stay away from them... But I can't remember the reason why. I know that on many units, the Propane will heat it much faster than the 110V. Let us know how it goes if you decide to do the mod.

Do you ever run both LP and Electric Mark?

You will get close to 12gal/hr with both on.

I'm thinking that to much heat will cause the Temperature/Pressure relief valve to discharge due to the faster thermal expansion. Especially in a no flow situation.

I have a 10 gallon heater and I operated the electric and gas together for many years with no problem far as the t & P relief goes. Speed of heating has no effect on that! Now the gas won't work so only use electric as I don't want to spend the money to repair. Still we have enough hot water even with the laundry onboard.

Have used both a few times we multibel needs for hot H2O occured, no issue. I believe it is a fairly common practice.

Run both all the time. Was looking to improve recovery rate.

Put both on for long hot showers. Helps my aches and pains. As long as I'm connected to sewer.

Sounds like he runs both electric and propane. What Mark is asking is, has anyone also added a drain plug element as well and plugged it into the pedestal directly.

I don't know why you couldn't. Have not done it nor know anyone that has. If you do, let us know how it works.

I believe Tim has read the OP's post correctly. If you re-read you will see what he is asking.
