Door shocks

Got tired of the front storage compartment door closing on me so I installed a shock on it - similar to what CrossRoads installed on the door on the bed slide side of the trailer. I installed a set on the other side door too. The passenger side door is a much heavier door - core material is heavier so it was a little harder to install the screws on that door.

I installed the hardware on both sides for the front door but only installed one 20# shock. One is all that is needed. I had ordered the shorter shock (H6-100-15) and they did not work so I used a longer 20# shock (Gas Springs H6-200-20).

On the side door I originally ordered 20# shocks and they were not strong enough so I ordered 40# chocks (Gas Springs H6-200-40) and they hold it open. Two are needed to hold the door open.

Ordered the parts from http://www.hatchlift.com/ .

I follwed the instructions for standard, medium, large door for the side door mounting plate (4 inches from the edge). I followed the instructions for small doors on the front door (mounting plate 2 inches from the edge).

I needed 2 wooden blocks provided in the kit for the front door. None were needed for the side door.

Click on the picture and it will give a better view.

With just one shock on the front door, do you think that will be OK?
Reason I ask is in the picture it looks like its twisting.

It was the angle I took the picture. It opens and closes straight (just re-checked). If I have issues in the future I have a spare 15# shock (H6-200-15). The 20# shock keeps it open without any effort.

The material in the door is very dense - I used a cordless drill and the self tapping screws that came with the kit - keep pushing on the bit/screw until it finally goes into the material. It does take awhile compared to the front door.

Same thing happened to me - had to just keep applying pressure and it finally went in. Both doors are still opening fine and no looseness in the mounting hardware.
