Looking to replace my shocks on my truck. Anyone have a recommendation on what to use?
Would like to have a great ride while not towing, but want to have the firmness and stability while towing. I already have Timbrens on the truck, but my shocks have started to get worn out after 70K miles.
Any thoughts/recommendations are appreciated.

There are many munufactures around and none are really any better or worse than each other. Look for sales and find the right fit replacement for your OEM and you can't go wrong if your looking to maintain the ride you already have.

mines a ford but i just replaced my oem's with bilsteins. i like them and they were'nt over the top expensive.

There are some that are adjustable. I had them on my last truck and seemed to work pretty well. They had a knob that had 6-8 settings for amount of stiffness. Believe they were Rancho 9000's.

I went with the Monroe Gas Magnums. Looked at the adjustable ones and the air ride ones, but decided to go with the Monroe.

Most of the bigger brand shocks do well, with some rare exceptions. That said, I have had very good service out of Bilstein Heavy Dutys.I had Rancho 5000s on my 06 Ford 250 from the factory. They did well for a bout 80K, which is FAR better than the 6.0L Powerstroke did... but I digress. Just still a little bitter, I guess. The ugly yellow Bs get my nod for now. Do a google and you'll find an "e" dealer that has great prices and reasonable shipping on Bs.

I just had a set of Bilsteins put on my truck 2 weeks ago. Great ride compared to the Rancho's that came off the truck.

AC Delco makes HD replacements similar to your OE shocks. They are available at many parts stores and carry a lifetime warranty. I have almost 60k on mine with no complaints.

Your biggest problem is that you have Timbrens on your truck. You will never get a good unloaded ride with them no matter what kind of shocks you put on. Toss the Timbrens, go to a spring shop and have a real set of springs installed.

Okay I will disagree, I have Timbrens and installed correctly they do not effect the ride of the truck unloaded. They do not even come into play until you load the truck heavy and they touch the axle. With the heavy pin weight of our trailer they improved the ride and handling of mytruck and allow it to sit level when the trailer is hooked up.

I have to agree with Keith, the Timbrens if installed properly do not effect any thing, until a load is placed on them

The Timbrens have never been a problem. I would never tug without them after using them. There is plenty of gap for driving unloaded.

I realize that this post is a bit over a month old, but Bilsteins also have a 5100 series shock that is well worth looking into. A good place to get from is www.summitracing.com. Kennedy Diesel also has them, and probably Autozone, who is a Bilstein dealer.
Our original Bilsteins, 6 yrs old, 51,000 miles, were getting a little soft. Autozone (where I originally bought them from) kept the warranty registration on their computer system. When I told them, their response was "they will be here Tuesday, just bring us the old shocks". So I have to give KUDOS to Autozone.
I am thinking of replacing our new Bilsteins (about 2000 miles on them) with the 5100 series and selling the old(new replaced)ones for a good price as I don't want to wait another 6 years to get the 5100 series and my wife would get on my case a little bit.
We have an 04.5 2500HD diesel 4x4 and I can't say enough about the Bilsteins for ride, towing control etc. We also put heavy duty Hellwig sway bars front and back, that help a bit also.

I also have timbrens & i noticed on one side there is still about a 1'' gap between the timbrens & the frame& the other side is about 1/2'' gap,What do you think it is the shocks or the springs?I took it in to the place who put the timbrens on & he thought it was the springs,He said i should have a super spring put on,Anybody have one put on,I have just under 50,000 mile on my truck.Thanks

The Timbrens come with spacers, any chance the installer put one on one side and not on the other? That would explain the 1/2" difference from one side to the other. Does the rear of the truck sit level on flat ground?

Your springs control the ride height not the shocks. Your truck is an 07, I find it hard to believe you would need new springs but I guess stranger things have happened.
