Kitchen under mount sink repair

Has anyone removed an under mount sink? Mine is not lined up properly and I have about a 1/8 inch gap across the front. Last year I just put some caulking on it a few times to keep the water from pouring into the cabinet. I want to pull the sink out and set it correctly. It looks like there are only 4 thumb screws holding it up, but there must be some epoxy or adhesive holding it under the counter top.

Also the faucet is not tight and I can't get to it even with my special faucet wrench so I want to tighten that or maybe even swap it out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If yours is anything like ours and it sounds like it is, it's just held in place at the corners. Ours has wing nuts and all they did was put sealant around the outside edge of the sink missing the corners after the sink was installed. Ours leaked every time we did dishes. If you take the plumbing loose and remove the 4 wing nuts or thumb screws you should be able to just pull the sink down from the top. I put a bead of silicone around the lip of the sink and then remounted the sink to the top. The way the factory did it was like trying to put a piece of tape on a hole in a water line.

thanks for the reply Phil. Wing nuts is the right word, I couldn't think of it when I wrote the post. As long as I don't have to use some kind of special chemical to dissolve an epoxy I'm good. What scares me is this RV is put together better than some of the ones I've had before and that isn't saying much.

Your welcome. What they used around our sink is called Sikaflex. It's a polyurethane sealant/adhesive and feels almost like rubber. It can easily be cut using a razor knife and scraped off with a putty knife.

I unscrewed the 4 wing nuts around the sink and used a utility knife to cut around the edge, then pushed it further in as I gently pushed the knife further in. The sink came out easily. I'm glad I took it out because in addition not being off set in the front, there wasn't a continuous bead around the sink. Have all the old silicone scraped off and I cleaned the sink and polished it with Barkeepers friend. Now it shines. Going to put it back together this weekend.

Th sink is just an over mount sink mounted under counter.
