Manual override nut

Just for the heck of it the other day I went to use the Manual override on my Lippert elec. jack to make sure if I ever needed to use it ,it would work.... popped the rubber cap off at the top of the jack put the socket on it gave it a turn and the nut broke in three pieces.

So I called Lippert and they won't sell you just the nut,the guy said you have to buy a whole new jack,he said we get many calls for that nut but they won't sell you just the nut "WHAT A SCAM!!!" I said! I said if I ever have to by a new jack it won't be one of yours.

Luckily a friend of mine is a master machinist and he can make me one,he looked at the nut and said it was a poor heat treating that caused the nut to fall apart.

I'll try and post pictures but it will just show the link maybe someone on here can re post them for me.

I just had exactly the same problem, except mine happened when the jack motor failed. Luckily I was at an RV service center when it happened. I got an Attwood jack as a replacement (over the Lippert jack), and am working through a claim with my extended warranty provider...
