New Backsplash in Kitchen

Our 335SS came with a black wall for the kitchen backsplash and after careful consideration decided to install Smart Titles which I saw Mark Polk use on RV Education 101. They are light weight, flexible, come in sheets 10x10, 6 to a package with peel and stick adhesive and no grout to worry about. Installed these this summer and wanted to wait and see how they stood up to the heat over 100 degrees this summer and extreme cold we also get here in Colorado (-19 below so far). I ordered these from HomeDepot web site, no stores had these in stock. They are not cheap, I think it was just over $100 for them with some left over for mistakes. It did take me about 3 hours to complete this wall. Measuring twice and cutting once with a utility knife and going around all the outlets, stove, microwave and two tiered countertops. But what a huge difference in light and appearance from the old black wall.

That looks awesome! Our kitchen is identical to yours (two tiered counter, etc.) Thanks for posting. We may consider a similar upgrade.

I showed the pictures to my husband and he agrees that this is a very worthwhile upgrade. Could you please post more details, like why you used a utility knife instead of tin snips or something else, how you dealt with the switch plates and electrical plates (removed or worked around?), whether it is better to start at the top or the bottom, etc.? With any project, if you can learn from someone else's experience, then you are further ahead. Do you have the name or stock number of the stuff you used? If we cannot get it in Canada then we can get it here in Florida before we go home.

Thanks.

The web site for this product is www.thesmarttitles.com and they show the different patterns/colors available and video/demonstrations of this product in detail.
I hate to call it titles even though it looks just like them. It's sheets that are maybe a 1/8" thick and are very flexible so it's easy to cut with a knife and straight edge.
Yes, I did remove all the box plates just like painting or wallpaper. If you have difficult cuts to make ( like our two level countertop with rounded edge) I just made a paper or cardboard pattern first and transferred that to the back of the title sheet for a more accurate pattern. The titles do overlap each other so that helps if you are working with a not to vertical corner or surface.
I started on the inside vertical corner and worked my way up and across the wall from the counter top so when I got to the top (under the cabinets) if it was off a little it wouldn't be visible. There is a trim wood piece under the cabinet that you can remove and in some cases the wall is flexible enough you can slip the sheet behind the cabinet, trim or microwave for a clean appearance.

I don't have a part numbers for this pattern or color, nothing showing on my last package. These are made in Canada and they call the process printed sheets and some patterns or colors my come in different sizes. I know Home Depot only had two colors and patterns listed when I ordered these from the web site last summer. No Stores carried these in our area.

Hope this helps

Thanks very much for the information. We will look at the site and watch the videos.

I am now excited about it! It is one of the first things you see when you come into the trailer so it should be eye-catching when it is done. We are definitely going to do this when we get home in the spring.

Nice job!

We can't understand why they used black in the kitchen and bedroom. We changed ours too.

I honestly don't think any RV designer have used their products. Black walls and countertop, come on. OH WELL.

Hey did you get your wet bolt kit from Lippert?
Was it the Standard kit #146297 or the Heavy duty and did it come with the bronze bushings?

Guess what I need to do next?

Sorry lots of questions

Thanks,

Never had a problem and we did use it all summer like this. It really is not that close to our back burner. But something to consider.

FYI: should be www.thesmarttiles.com "tiles" not "titles"

Great looking product. Definitely will check out. Love that look. Nice job!

This was on their add. Looks like a job I will be doing. Wife said so LOL.

the tiles are resistant to the heat of stovetops and the humidity of bathrooms (do not use in shower).

Just did our kitchen back splash this past weekend and it looks great! It's a really easy product to work with and until you look closely, appears to be real glass tile.
