No More Nocold 1210!

Junked the Nocold.....installed a Samsung RF18 residential fridge. When the RV service man I gave the Nocold to tried to load it, he told me the shell insulation was waterlogged. Never heard of it! Couple pictures....

Did you make the icemaker water connection accessible from the old out side vent? I've considered this upgrade & thought I'd leave a small section of the upper/lower vents open for better circulation around the fridge or does it need it? Did you/will you have to add more batteries & an inverter to run it while traveling?
Nice job!

That is 1" foam board in the back. Water line comes through floor. I added 3/4 exterior plywood on the slide floor. Will lay vinyl planks over that soon. IIRC, Samsung recommends 1/2" clearance around fridge. I have about 1" on sides and 2" in back. The lower lower panel allows access (also cut the foam board). We don't travel much, but I may add inverter and necessary batteries later. I will research farther, but have read that Samsung says the RF18 will operate okay on a modified sine wave inverter.

One more thing, the RF18 we looked at in Home Depot had a fan on the top back of the cabinet. The new model does not.

We have had issues with our Norcold every year, for the last 3 years. When it gets over 100°. Found out a couple weeks ago. Not installed correctly. RV mobile guy fixed the bottom half so the air flows overs the coils. I installed a heat shield at the top to vent out the heat correctly. Now running like they should. 34° to 38°. We are happy full-time campers.

Ours was junk from the getgo. Two cooling units, a door and door flap later it was still junk. It was properly baffled. Before we pulled it out, it was taking 3 days to freeze a tray of ice. I probably won't ever but another RV, but if I do, it'll have a residential fridge in it.

Speaking of soaked insulation, we have a Dometic and I defrosted it yesterday for the first time. About halfway through, I decided to go outside and check the drain. There was no drain! No drain pipe. No hole in the floor. The water was draining under the fridge! Instead of pulling the fridge, from now on I'm going to run a hose from the hole in the drain tray to a bucket inside. This is the first real construction problem (yes, minor) I've found after 4 months of living in it.

I haven't had any problems with my Norcold. I keep it set to 4 on a scale that goes to 5. On my last trip, the outside temperature was 99°. The temperature in the refrigerator was 33° and the freezer was 8°. I had a couple water bottles freeze in the refrigerator. I see no performance difference between operating on gas or electricity.

For anyone thinking of going with the Samsung RF18, seems the old models drew 1.1 amps. The new model draws 3 amps. We don't dry camp, so it's not an issue for us.
