Earlier this year i had enough and had some spare time.
My Reese 16K Slider was sloppy as all heck, Made all kinds of noise. It was so sloppy i thought the camper was going to rip it out of the bed of the truck.
I bought the proper sized monster grade 8 bolt and went to town. The old big pin was warn and grooved.
I cut the bolt down to size and drilled the hole for the quick release pin.
I made steel bearing tubes to support the new bolt. The old holes were thin and egg shaped. Welded in the tubes and painted. The nut is pulled snugly not crazy tight. Added grease all around and no more slop with added support. The hitch through hole was still round and to size.
Had to notch the hitch a bit due to the bolt head hitting. Welded in support to make up for it, I didn't think i needed it, But why not, Welder was still running.
I had .062 1.5 wide shim stock. I tac welded to the bottom of the slide rails. Used the hand grinder and ground flat with paint. Slide moves Snug but slides freely.
Lastly. Cut up some old TPO roofing membrane, .050 and put under each of the four feet where the pins go. Getting the pins in is a touch tricky, But with a little persuasion they go.. SNUG..
Was going to toss the hitch over the side and buy a new one. It was so sloppy , made terrible noises stopping, taking off and over bumps. No more.. But a some good miles on her already to know my job was a success.. She rides so beautiful now.. I love the hitch now. And with my New this year Morryde, she rides perfect. Snug as a Bug. Getting her ready now for a big trip down south.
