Shower mod needed?

Does this happen to you? you quickly have found the right temp to take your super fast shower, you turn off the lever at the showerhead to shampoo etc then upon turning it back on an arctic blast of freezing water hits you right in the face then after afew seconds it returned to your set temp!..what on earth is going on here? I sort of 1/2 determined that the cold water is overpowering the hot flow for some reason.
the big question is..can this be fixed so you can use this as intended? Maybe a well placed check valve or a different tap setup? anyone solved this issue?

Thanks
Ron

Happens on ours as well. I solved it by not turning it off. I just shower faster!! No idea why it happens and I've never heard of a fix for it. (and we have an Oxygenics shower head so we use less water anyway)

I believe that the culprit is the check valve in the hot water outlet in the heater to prevent water from entering it when the by-pass valve is in the "winter" position.

Get an oxygenics showerhead, you will use less water with more power so you don't have to turn it off as much.

X2...Still happens when you shut it off, but so much better.

when you shut the water off, the hot water in the line cools down, giving you a blast of cold, until the hot water pushes the cold water out of the hot water line.

I believe this is used to prevent accidental scalding when turning the shower back on. In Ontario Canada code requires that shower temps be limited to a max of 105F. In residential shower mixing valves there is a adjustable thermostat on the mixer valve that can be adjusted to a max of 105F. Perhaps to meet this requirement this the solution.

Rv's do not have anti scalding mixer valves as far as I know. If you think about it, the water in an RV has to be hotter because of the size of the water heater.... OH that's HOT...

I don't think you can get away from that cold blast of water when you turn the shut off valve back to the on position. I just point the nozzle away from my body until I feel the water go back to my original setting...

X3 for the Oxygenics. For some stupid reason, I waited 8 years before buying one. Makes all the difference.

One of the first mods we did and love it!

Does the Oxygenics eliminate the cold water problem or is it just a better shower head?

Just a better shower head. More efficient.

looks like there is only a rubber flapper valve in the mixer ? I tried to get more pressure at the shower head but removing the restriction caused water to spray from the coupling.

I would suggest to any one who wants to improve the efficiency of their RV shower to buy the Oxygenics shower head... As far as I know there is NO WAY to eliminate the 3 or 4 second rush of cold water when you turn the shut off valve on the shower head back to the ON or OPEN position...

You might want to check this out from the web site ModMyRV. This mod claims to eliminate that rush of cold water. I personally haven't done this mod but have been considering trying it.

Great Mod, but MUCH easier to point the shower head away for 3 seconds to avoid cold water blast...
