Vented battery box

The new Volante came with one battery in a vented box but not enough room for a second battery. The box is located in the pass through storage. So we are gonna need a new box for dual batteries that we can add a vent to. Easier said than done,
There are not many options out there so now we are leaning to a diy fix. Anyone tried this yet, and what did you use? We found a dewalt toolbox today that is sealed but we need to do some measurements to both the box and batteries . Just starting to plan this so we cruised the isles at the hardware store looking for options.

Is the toolbox metal or plastic? Metal would not be a good choice, and whatever you use, it must be vented.

this is what we started with. As you can see the box is not sealing well the self tapping screws were already stripping out.

I'd buy two new boxes, place side by side and vent them.

This is the box we used. We moved the breakers inside the box. Then a vent hole out the bottom through the floor, and one out the top and to the vent. We have some sealing and painting left to do. Already better seal than factory and 2 batteries are installed.

Make sure your breaker is ignition protected being installed inside the cabinet with the batteries. Don't want an explosion should it trip. Ignition protected breakers are sealed. Looks really good.

Good point. I will check it out never thought about it as the Cruiser had them mounted right next to the batteries in the battery compartment.
