Wet Bolt Upgrade
I want to do the wet bolt upgrade on my 5er, but I'd like some advice from those who have done this before.
1. How do I determine which kit to buy?
2. Should I replace my Equa-Flex?
3. Can I use the lower hanger holes to reattach the springs and raise the camper? If so, would cutting a piece of steel tubing to the width of the springs and putting it back in the upper hole with the original bolt strengthen the hanger?
I have attached some pictures of my original setup.
Thanks,
Kemp

( 1 )...I bought the Mor/ryde wet bolt kit...
( 2 )...I called and asked the tech at Mor/ryde and was given the part number of the kit that was best for my camper...
( 3 )...I was told by Mor /ryde tech it was ok to use the bottom hole, but ran into trouble when I tried to do so...also kept the Equa flex for now it looked good after inspecting...
Kemp you should have my home phone number give me a call and I will run through the install with you...or PM me your number...

Mine is in the lower holes. Came that way. if you change holes, I would think putting something in the hanger between the holes would add some support and strength.
That would be your call as far as replacing the equa flex. I guess if looks OK, I wouldn't.

I finished my wet bolt upgrade after my computer crashed. I used the Mor/ryde kit and reassembled it using the lower holes in the spring hangers. I put 3.5" lengths of 1.75" square tubing in the space above the springs running one of the original bolts through the hangers and tubing for added reinforcing to the hangers. Using the lower holes appears to have raised the trailer 1 5/8". Since all 5 of my wheels are matching aluminum wheels, I took the opportunity to rotate the tires since I had to take all of them off. When I get a chance, I'll take some photos of the reinforcing I added.

The photo in the first post is how they looked originally. Here are a couple of photos showing the finished project along with the reinforcing I added to the hanger.

When I did my wet bolt upgrade I also dropped my springs into the lower hole.
Then I machined a piece of 3/4 inch iron pipe that fit snug inside the spring hanger and used the upper holes to clamp the pipe inside the hanger.
I noticed there was some space in the hanger that I could insert a piece of square tubing. I welded a cap on the tubing and drilled another set of holes in the spring hanger and bolted the square tubing into the spring hanger.
This did two things. Provided some more support for the hanger plus gives me a very handy jack point to jack up the trailer when I want to remove a tire.

DavisK, Thanks for the update. What condition was the Equa-Flex in? Do you feel like you could have continued with it without any issues?

The Equa-Flex was in great condition. I could have gone a long time without the upgrade because the original setup had bronze bushings in it already, but just no way to lubricate them.
