Where do you fit a 2nd battery?

For those that have 2+ batteries, where do you fit them? Got pics?

The rectangle formed in my A frame with angle irons for the batteries measures about 8.5 x 23 inches on my ST31QB. That MIGHT be enough for 2 size 24 batteries, if I happened to find a battery box the perfect size. No way it would fit 2 x size 27.

So people weld on more angle iron supports for a 2nd battery? or mount a larger box on top of the A frame, rather than inside it? Or put the batteries inside the front pass through storage compartment? (which sounds like a bad idea due to possible fumes from batteries)

Just trying to think of the possibilities of having 2 batteries, thanks!

mine are behind my propane tanks in the tounge of the trailer. i have two battery boxes side by side. i'll try to post pictures with measurements later.

Are you going to two 6V batteries or two 12V batteries?

There's nothing wrong with putting the batteries inside as long as they are vented. Most, if not all, Fivers have their batteries inside and they haven't been a problem because they're vented.

If you go to two batteries, I recommend using 6 volt batteries. Much better over the long haul.

That's what we plan to do when the original one dies.

I was debating getting 1 size 29 12v, or getting 2 size 24 or 27 12 volt. I have not found a local place yet that sells 6v batteries, maybe Im just looking in the wrong places.

Honestly Im leaning towards just 1 battery to save some cash for now, but am curious where I would put a 2nd if I did decide to go that route. I suppose I can put them in the front pass through compartment. That area is not vented though, and is right under my queen bed which pulls up for access to storage.

Look for golf cart batteries. Here's a couple of links to something which might convince you to go with 2 6V batteries rather than 2 12V batteries.

Even if you decide to stay with 12V batts, the articles are excellent information for anyone messing with a 12V system.

On my ST29RL Iam adding alocking tongue box from Harbor Freight that fits nicely where battery tray is. Holds 2 batteries easily+ cutoff switch and more [light stuff] like flag poles.
