With temperatures forecasted to be in the 60's later in the week, it is getting real close to waking up the trailer as the first camping trip is less than two weeks away!! How about the rest of you non-snowbirds???

Started work this week. Hooked up the batteries, then hooked on to the rig and moved it over away from the wall so I could repack wheel bearings. New grease seals also. Had to replace a couple wheel studs, the threads started pulling.

Frank, quit bragging.

Just took her out for her second voyage this weekend. We did a great rookie mistake though. We never finished rinsing the pink stuff out on the 1st trip because we were afraid it was going to run into the water heater (don't ask). So this weekend, we were parked next to a very nice family who had just traded in their beloved zinger for a larger heartland. They told us what to do. Then, the newbies that we are go, "so how do we actually know there is water in our water heater?" SoDH andIsimultaneously got a brillant idea to find out. Now wait for it.... DH went over and unscrewed the drain plug enough to see if water would leak out, it did and then he tried to tighten it. Unable to do so, he decided to take off the drain plug and rethread it.... with the water still turned on. The drain plug and water went flying out soaking DH and our kindly neighbor. The chairs were sent flying from the water pressure. The neighbor ran to turn off the water and then we all fell to the ground laughing hysterically. His wife asked us if that was his brillant idea and we had to convince her that my DH thought of that all on his own. And yes we offered him beer and smores for his help but somehow that just didn't seem to be enough.

Hey We live in rhode island, it is showing signs of SPRING. Replaced battery today will dewinterise later this week. Heading for Virginia first week of April. Curious what gear ration do you have in your F350? I did not notice a big change with the power upgrade, however this will be the first tow so the 800fpt should make it easy. Happy Trails

That would mean I would have to go north where Lloyd has all of that white stuff saved. Hmmm Hoover has his summer do could not put him thru the shock. How ever the adult beverage sounds good

Socoguy, I have the 3:55 ratio and I notice the difference in the lower gears...seems to have more zip to get the rig rolling...although be careful as it is easy to spin the tires. I thought about the 3:31, but I always travel with a full water tank and truck bed loaded with wood and other stuff so I opted for the taller gear. I average about 10-11(only got about 7 with the 09) when towing and I run around 70-mph. Worst mileage was 9-9.5 running against a 30-mph+ head wind going to minnesota. We just got back from minnesota last month and on winter fuel(not towing)running 72 -mph, I got 18 mpg. That is 3-mpg better than what my 09 did. Overall, I am very happy with the new truck and I am curious to see if it will do a bit better on mileage this year now that I have a few more miles on it.

Gossamar, Thanks for the reply. I am also running with 3:55, a neighbor tells me I will be sorry when I get to the western mountain areas. I am presently getting 17.9 to 18.6 around town. I took a 225 mile trip @65mph and got 20.3. That is off the vehicle computer. We are new to this, have only towed one trip and got 13mpg. I only have 9K on the truck with winter fuel so I hope to do even better. I had some reservation about the new diesel but I have always had Fords and no bad experience to report. This truck is Awesome!

I think mileage with the 5th wheels is a bit better than the travel trailers from what people have posted....
I am sure some others may post about the mountain experience soon...

Temps are finally getting close to freezing here, so another month and a half and we will be draining the pink stuff and putting some miles on. No trip to the US this spring, but maybe later in the summer. We are both very excited to get out and spend some nights in the trailer again. Hope to be able to get between 50 and 60 nights again!

De-winterizing is pretty well done here. Drained the pink stuff out today and have all the other projects finished. Now to hook on and pull over by the garage, flush and sanitize the water system and we are ready to start loading.
55 degrees today----WOW

Got trailer back today from a bearing repack and brake check, tech said all looked good. I opened up the slide, checked the furnace, the Air Conditioner, will drain pink stuff/sanitize on Saturday and have our first "Camp Driveway" of the season. I have one mod to work on this weekend and that is to put cabinet doors on the access areas. Like "Old Farmer", the loading will begin and I am NOT looking forward to the Wal-Mart bill this weekend!! Then next week it is a 5-day trip to Southern Illinois.

Dewhaterizing? Well, temp's hit mid-50's today, cloudy, with only light rain; we were delighted! Ifigure that if this keeps up, I'll dewinterize in, oh, 6 weeks!

It was 79 degrees and sunny in NC today. Loving it now, hating the heat this summer!

Pink stuff is out and all lines sanitized. Finishing up the cabinet door mod for the access panels, did not quite get the color right, but close enough for government work. Still want to upgrade the water pump to a 3.5 or 4-gpm model, but that will wait for another day. 5-days in Southern Illinois is two days away!!
