Water heater by pass pictures

How do I know my water heater is filling up?
De winterized and sanitized and wanted to turn on heater
I have water hooked up to city line
My two valves are open
Does it fill on its own? Or do I run hot water to draw water into heater?

On mine, ST 270BH, the hot water heater just fills when either the city water connection is hooked up or if I'm using the water tank, when the water tank is full and I'm running the water pump. If the valves are in the correct position, your HW tank should just fill -- but as I said, that's on my unit. Not sure if its the same on all. You can try it out, put on the hose, wait a few mins. Turn on your hot water heater and wait about 15 mins. Do you have hot water? If so, then your good.

Open your outside access door for the water heater, and you will see a pressure relief valve. Lift that when you are filling with water. It will bleed off the air, and when full, water will come out. Then just shut the valve and finish bleeding the air out of your lines inside with the faucets.
At least doing it with the relief valve you will be assured the tank has water in it.
