Winterizing for oldies, newbies or in between.
Well winterized my 2016 5er for the first time since I purchased it. I have owned 10 units in the past so I'm not new to winterizing. I live in the NW mountains of NC so it gets really cold in the winter. So, I probably use a little to much RV antifreeze because I'm like that. I first drain the hot water heater and fresh tank. Then drainlow point valves. I will bypass water heater, switch valve to winterize at water pump. Then I will put the hose in the antifreeze and turn on the pump. Then go to each fawcet and turn on cold until antifreeze comes out then turn off the cold and do the hot side. I only have a sink in the bathroom and the shower and toilet, sink in kitchen and outside shower. Also I will open low point until antifreeze comes out. So I will do this all around and then the paranoid person I am; I will redo again just to make sure I didn't miss anything. So I finished winterizing, switched the winterizing valve back so I don't forget in the spring and can't figure out why the water pump isn't pumping water, (Been there, done that) and closed the slides and turned off the battery shut off and put extra antifreeze away. Started walking down to the house from my building and realized I forgot to winterize to toilet. I'm only 51 but sometimes I wonder if I'm really loosing it. So I had to open the slide and set up the antifreeze with the pump to do the toilet. It may be time for a winterizing checklist. Last year a friend of mine who is 65 young forgot to winterize the outside shower for the first time and didn't realize it until water started spraying the first time he used it in the spring. So I guess the moral of this post is: Make a checklist no matter if your a newbie, oldie or somewhere in between.
