Looking to upgrade the tires within the next few weeks and I am looking at the Carlisle "E" rated tire, 225 75 15. I recently found a "small" bulge on one of the sidewalls and with a big trip coming up I want to be safe. I know this topic has been brought up before, but has anyone taken the plunge yet and more importantly, would the rims support the 80-psi pressure?

The aluminum rims are good for 80PSI with steel stems. Check discount tire. They carry the Maxxis. I got the "E's" for about 400.00 +/-.

I am pretty sure Dayle1 had "E" tires installed on his Cruiser on the stock steel wheels. He will probably be along shortly with more info.

Hunter is right, my Maxxis 'E' tires have been on my Cruiser for 3 yrs now, stock steel rims. I run them at 75 psi. First trip was 10k miles and included some pretry rough roads in Pa., NB and NS (lost a hub cap in Nova Scotia). The rear tires are wearing a little more than the fronts, but then I have Mor/ryde suspension with no equalization, so bring a little nose high this is no suprise. In the near future, I'll get two new Maxxis 'E's and use one of the old tires to replace the 'D' spare that is already 6 yrs old.

Discount Tire is where I went and that is what they had available. From what I have read here and other places it is a toss up between the Carlisle and Maxxis tires. I have the Aluminum rims, good thought about the steel valve stems...

Got the Carlisle's with steel stems last year and run 80 psi with the Aluminum rims with no issues. I have put about 5000 miles on them. Tire pressure rises to about 88 when hot on the road. Got them from direct
