HI. Going to install 2nd battery. I will stay with 12 volt wired in parallel. My dealer installed an Interstate and it has performed well. Looking forrecommendations. I have a Honda 2000 Gen and we have been enjoying state parks (dry camp). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Working towards longer trips and possible solar adds

I installed a second battery in my fifth wheel - when dry camping and running the furnace a second battery is needed to make it through the weekend.
I installed the two 12V batteries in a dual 6V battery box I purchased on Amazon (NOCO HM426 Black Dual 6V Commercial Battery Box). The box interior was just a little larger than I needed so I put a small piece of styro foam between the two batteries. I cut off the the vent connection off my old battery box and attached it to the new box (pop rivets and RTV to seal it). I purchased the cables for connecting the two batteries at Auto Zone (easier than making my them and they make a good fit up). The new battery box is in the same area as the old one so I could use the existing vent connection. I used 4 bolts to hold the box in place (the old box used 4 screws - plugged the old holes with RV roof repair tape and RTV and then painted)
When I dry camp and need AC power I take along a 4000 watt yamaha generator. Needed it when we went to the races at Watkins Glen the end of June. Ran the air a couple times during the day to cool down the RV. Looking to purchase a 2000 watt Honda generator for when I don't need or take the 4000 watt generator.
I would send some pictures but my fifth wheel is at the shop for bedroom slide repairs. When I get it back I can send you pictures if needed.

Hey thanks Bob. You have given me help and info before. Yourdescriptionisgreatno need for pics. I had not decided about the battery box so that is good info. A neighbordoesn'tuse a covered battery box or specific vent, thinks itsunnecessary. Not sure about that one? Whaty battery MFG are you liking? Thanks again

My batteries are in the enclosed compartment in the front and the original was vented so I figured I would vent the 6V box too.
Have had good luck with Interstate batteries - Have used in trailers that we have owned since 2003 when we went back to fifth wheels.
Used Trojan 6V batteries in motor homes (Bounder - 1991 to 2003)

Will take some pictures when I get the RV home.
Keesesville is near lake Champlain - about 300 mile drive from us. We have taken a ferry near there to Burlington,VT. Also, camped at the Ausable Chasm KOA many years ago.
Oswego is located along Lake Ontario - lake effect snow country.
Question - what type of slide do you have on your CF30ES bedroom?

My first trailer came with two interstate batteries in parallel. At the time I lived in a desert climate.I often would leave my RV parked for longer than I would have liked without A/C availability. When I want to go out I need the batteries to retain enough power to keep the refrigerator going for 36 hours, of course the smoke and carbon monixide detectors are powered also. I found that the two interstate batteries would loose power expecially if setting a long time. I replaced them with one Sears platinum deep cycle. I tried only one as it was about $200. This battery had a 3 year free replacment, guaranteed to retain charge for 2 years stored. Once I put that battery in I never had a dead battery issue again, I also never had a reason toadd the second battery. When I need to replace my battery in my Rushmore, I'm heading to sears.
Ilike to save mony as everyone else does, but have found a battery is not the place to do it.
Good Luck and safe travels.

I agree with Sportsfan949.
When we got our trailer, I had the dealer install another 12V interstate. That was not a good choice. I found them to be a very poor battery for holding a charge for any length of time. I switched over to Trojan's. Two (2) 6V T105. There is no comparison.
My advise would be for anyone thinking they need/want more battery----get rid of the interstate and go with a "GOOD" set of 6V deep cycles.

Reason for going with a
NOCO HM426 Black Dual 6V Commercial Battery Box – when the 12 V
batteries die I can easily switch to the Trojan T105 battery.
