Black Water Flush:

Black Water Flush: This is the second time that the SAN-T-FLUSH became clogged. I’m certain that after dropping the belly liner I will find the spray nozzle clogged with paper as it was last time. The problem is that the nozzle is at the bottom on the black tank. We have ordered a Tornado Tank Flush and it will be installed properly near the TOP of the tank.

Yup, mine has done that twice as well. I am a bit surprised it hasn't happened in the last few years. Let us know your thoughts on the Tornado install and usage. It may be something i will do as well.

I recommend the Flush King, installed at your drain outlet instead:
1. It only costs $50
2. You can see what's going on
3. You can also back flush the gray tank. (who knows? grease? food?)
Good luck!

Here is a good eye opener on your black tank.

Good video. Pretty much shows how useless the Flush King and other outlet type rinsers are. Especially if you have elbows to contend with. I'll stick with my in tank rinser and the Geo Method of to keep the tank clean. Others are a waste of money.

I'll keep using my Flush King along with the tank rinse system. Inspection of the tank using lights and mirrors after 3 flush rinse cycles, it is about 98% clean.

Change of Plans: I dropped the belly liner back to the stairs to get a look at the Black Tank. My memory did not serve me well as I had thought there was more than a 3”access to the end of the tank. So, the Tornado will not be installed. I cleared the old San-T-Flush and will be careful NOT to travel without dumping the Black Tank first.
I did spend hours bundling loose wires, placed wire bundles in split sleeve and securing the sleeve so that they no longer rest on the belly liner.

Dave...What I do is run the black flush before dumping and all the time I am actually draining the tank. It stays on to fill the tank and I drain the tank 2-3 times before turning it off. I don't know if this keeps debris from getting into the screen but I had it plug twice and since doing it this way it hasn't plugged since. (Knock on wood).

Problem with that way is that I have been to some dump stations that do not have a hose fitting on the end of the hose. And we never normally get sites with water or sewer.

Stan, That is exactly what we do. I think the problem occurs when traveling with black water in the tank. A slurry of paper machete is formed and is then forced into the screen nozzle and partially down the hose toward the check valve and vacuum breaker. Actually the first clog we had glued the check valve closed. Maybe, if the check valve were right at the nozzle (as with the Tornado) this would not happen.

I've dumped at stations that had a hose with the end cut off. I just remove their hose and use mine to connect to my San-T-Flush. When I'm finished, I swap the hoses back.

X2. While I'm draining my tanks I just switch the hoses.

We installed a hose fitting on the low point water drain and in a pinch we connect a hose between it and the flush fitting.

Novel idea, but be careful. I assume you don't have city water pressure in this situation, and are using fresh water from your tank, pressurized by your pump. If, during the drain phase, if your flush nozzle is open, the pump quits or is accidently turned off, then loss of cold water pressure could allow the black tank to flow through the hose into your domestic water system. Eeek!

Can have a backflow preventer screwed into the end of the hose that connects to the tank flush. All marinas have them on their taps at the dock.
or have someone babysit with a shut off in line.

Thanks for your concern but there is a check valve and vacuum breaker in my system and they are in working order.
In fact they used to be located under the bathroom vanity but for safety sake I moved them to the basement ceiling behind the water control panel. Now, if they leak the water drains outside and doesn't flood the bathroom.
