I just purchased a 2012 cruiser 30es. The dealer is 200 miles from my home, by the time I got home both bumper caps were gone. Any suggestions on keeping the caps in place during a bumpy ride?

After losing a few of the regular kind, I bought these several years ago,

Even bought a spare in case I lost one on the road. Haven't lost one of them yet.

I have used the locking caps and I even lost one of those, so I resorted to drilling holes through the bumper and the rim of the cap. I then took a 1/4" round Aluminum rod and made a pin to slide through the holes. I then drilled a small hole through the rod and installed a small hair pin cotter to hold the rod in the bumper... I've never lost another bumper cap (or hose).

Ace Hardware sells short lengths of brass rod for cheap, If the hole in the rubber is a tad smaller than the rod, it will stay and not move out. Just heat a spot up about an inch from the end of the rod and bend it over at a right angle, like an allen wrench. Put an almost sharp point on it. You can buy drills for drilling "injection molds" at industrial supply shops. They are longer than standard drill bits.

I have never physically lost one but years ago when seeing one part way out Idrilled a 1/4 in hole in the bottom of the tube at the edge. I then installed a less than tight small wiretie in this hole.I then took one(a tie)with ascrew eye in it & used a small sheetmetal screw to fasten to the rubber cap towards the bottom. I them tightened the tie just enough to give it leeway to be removed & hang by it's tether.Worked well & I am just about to do it to new unit soon! Very inexpensive quite permanent repair.I had all the pieces in my junk drawers!! IMHO jb

I just screw them in place since I never store anything in the bumper anyways.

I dont the same thing with a piece of threaded rod. Drilled a hole through the top and bottom of the cap and bumper.I put a double nut on the top jammed them together with two wrenches, and drilled a hole through the bottom of the rod and put a small clevis pin in it.

Works great and I keep my black iron pipe I use to set up my satellite dish in the bumper so it has to keep a good amount of weight inside the bumper and I havent had any problems at all.

I must add that I have never lost one nor have I had one LOOK like it is coming out. Maybe I have been lucky or the tolerances on my bumper and caps are just a bit tighter.

Drill a hole, insert a 6 penny nail. Done.

I've never lost one but I've ruined several sewer hoses by storing them in the bumper. The inside will rust and then the vibration while traveling will cause small holes in the sewer hose. On my current trailer I used silicone seal to hold the rubber bumper ends in place and filled the hole in the middle of the cap to prevent wasps from building nests inside.

I now carry my hoses in a PVC tube mounted under the trailer.

Otherwise I think you got some good ideas above on using pins to hold in place.
