If I am correct Grand Design is now owned by Winnebago...Winnebago also makes almost all of the parts that they use on their campers, which gives them great control of the quality of their product...
You are correct Tommy. Winnebago bought them out a year or so ago. They left the GD management in place (2 out of 3 founders retired), and it is run independently of Winnebago. So far the customer service has remained great. I haven’t heard of any Winnebago parts being used in GD units yet.

Winnebago make the parts for the RV's with the Winnebgo name...If they keep the Grand Design name they may do the same for that company...At least I hope they do Winnebago quality is quite high...

We have several friends with GD 5ers & they are no more trouble free than any other brand.
As mentioned earlier, just fill in the blank with any rv on the market, be it towable or driveable, they ALL have problems.
So to answer the OP, is that model reliable enough? It all depends on what you consider enough. It's probably as reliable as any on the market.
