I use one if we are camping with the kids.It helps controlmovement in the back of the trailer.
I have found locking the wheels is also very effective. I use one of the wedge devices between the tires.

We have one and it does seem to help but it is heavy to drag around and just one more thing to set up so to be honest, I rarely use it. It does keep people (mostly me)from running into the king pin .

I've read many other's claims that the money was better spent on one of the leg/jack stabilizer systems (JT, Plug-it-Right, etc.) Once these were installed, most quit using the tripod all together. Sorry, no personal experience, yet.
I do not notice a great benefit from our tripod though...this may be different depending on others styles of 5ers.

Of all the stuff I bought for our 5er, the tripod stabilizer has been my the least useful. I seldom use ours, I would have rather spent the same money on beer!

I'll be the echo in the building - the combination of Roto-Chocks and JT Stabilizer's (or similar) will work wonder's to remove the "rock the boat" motion.

I agree with the rest of the guys, I have a king pin tri-pod jack, it's heavy and basically worthless, I also use roto-chocks and I have an appt to have front stabilizer arms installed next month, I will let you guys know the difference as soon as we can get a weekend out, my suggestion is not to buy the jack and save some money and buy the stabilizers...

I've had one on two different 5ers. A HH which was about 35 ft. and now our cruiser, which is less then 27 ft. It helped on the longer rig more than it does on the present little guy.
All though I have to admit, it wasn't, and still isn't, anything to brag about.
Seriously considering putting the stabilizers on this spring.

I used to have a tripod and replaced it with PlugItRight stabilizers. I sold the tripod for half of what I paid for it,I just wanted it out of my garage. My opinion, spend theextra for the stabilizer bars. Quicker to setup at camp site and much better performance.

We use it only if we are set up for a long period. As stated before it is heavy difficult to store but does stabilize the trailer in conjunction with expanding wheel chocks. In addition it does take some weight off the front legs. Â*In short save your money.

I have the two legged one, in which both legs are adjustable, to me it doesn’t take the rolling out, but it does take the front bounce out. I use two BAL roto-chock for the rolling. Also I only use the king pin stabilizer on trips in which we’ll be set up for more than 2 night.

Thanks to all for the info. I think we will now invest in two ratchet type BAL Deluxe tire chocks and postpone any pin box stabilizer. I see that CW does have them for $42 plus shipping and our local Cabela’s has them for $49.
It does sound like I could pickup a used pinbox unit cheap if we decide to try one later.Edited by: jjriff

I have the aluminum tripod from CW and the BAL between the wheel expanding chocks. The aluminum tripod is much easier to handle than the steel one. Both items together have stabilized our 5'er quite a bit. Since we stay for three months in the winter,it is worth the effort and cost
