I was looking at a Cruiser at a show this past weekend and really liked what I saw with the exception of the dressing step as it extends along side of the bathroom up toward the head of the bed. My wife and I are planning on extended stay camping and I was wondering if anyone has a problem with this? It certinly did not seem easy to get into or out of bed on that side? Does one get use to it? What has anyone done as far as modifications to help. What about the other side of the bed next to the closet, any problems getting in or out there??? BTW we were looking atboththe31RE and 30SK. Thanks for any comments.

O be one ca newby

Hi welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help with your question but would think someone should be along soon.

Our old Cruiser 29RK had the "dressing step" from the bed to the bathroom and I always thought it was a pain. Several times I would get up since I slept on that side of the bed and was not thinking about the step and would almost fall getting out of bed. It is quite a drop if you are not ready for it. Don't really know what you could do to fix it that would look good.

We are on our second 30sk and stay in it three months each winter in southern Alabama. No issues with extended stay. As far as the bed step issue I have a small plastic fold-up step that I set between the bathroom wall and the bed step and it works nice for shortening the step distance. I set it right next to the heat register. Hope this helps.

I am on the tall side and it doesn't really bother me, although, I agree it is a big step. I sleep on the left side. The DW, however, is vertically challenged so I made a 4" step that runs the length of the bed on the closet side. It is as wide as the step area and made ofplywood. I then found some matching carpet and nailed the carpet to the wood box and mounted it to the floor. It works great and she doesn't have any more issues getting in or out of the bed. You could probably do the same for the bathroom wall side and long as it doesn't interfere with the slide movement or heat register if there is one.

if I was going to do any kind of extended stay in a crossroads product I would order a unit with absolutley no furniture, not even a mattress, save the money and go to a furniture store and buy yourself some good comfortable furniture, what they us is junk at best.....

I'm on the tall side just over 6' the wife is a little over 5'It made it easy for who got that side of the bed.I like it perfect cause I have to bend down on her side, with that being said I believe a mod would be easy enough however on the 30sk you would need to be sure that you didn't impede the movement of the slide. We do carry a small step that we can place anywhere for the grand-kids when they travel with us but i Don't believe that would be what you are looking for in an extended stay.It would however be fairly simple to fabricate a box to fit along side the bed from the edge of the bathroom to the head of the bed. That would allow you the added height and probably still meet the clearance as you move the slide forward to travel.

DH also built a step on the "tall side" and a short one between the slide and the closet. I didn't like getting out of bed and finding my foot "down in the ditch". covered both with carpet that matches the 5er carpet. Easy to do and a great mod

Mine has the dressing step (29RK) and I don't have any issue with it. Guess I have gotten used to it. After looking at it last night I can see where adding an extension would be helpful, but the vent is in the way and on the far side it would interfere with the cabinet door. It would have to be a partial step. It shouldn't be too difficult to make that mod, though.

Don't particularly like the steps but the good things definitely out weigh the bad....love our 30SK.

Like MAPACHOO we use a 9" light weight step stool. Only there at night and handy for high storage in the living room.
