I have a CF285RL and was wondering if the front AC is ducted (I don't think it is)? I am considering installing the front air and just wondered. It's in storage and figured I'd ask instead of driving out and looking. Thanks!

It should be ducted.

I'm pretty sure it dumps straight into the bedroom.

Most Patriot models, are prewired & ducted. I just put a 2nd a/c, in the front of mine & it was quite simple. The hardest part was getting it on the roof & then removing the vent. After removing the inside vent trim, you will see aluminum tape, covering the duct. All the wiring was in there too.

It's ducted. I had the second air installed in mine and you can see the ductwork. Just make sure they seal off the separate parts. They didn't on mine and I had to do a little duct taping.

Also you will figure out that 2 A/C's into the existing ductwork doesn't work too well. It just can't handle the flow. On the hot days I used the quick cool feature on about halfway and it worked out real well. Once you start playing with it you will see what I'm talking about.

Wife and I are happy owners of a 2012 ES300 Shara.Single A/C not cooling.Current outside temps are 100-103 deg. Now we all know in the direct sun it's a lot hotter more like 125-130 deg. Ourrig sits in the direct sunlight and the A/C can cool to 74 overnight but in the afternoon when I get home it 90 deg. inside! Debating on adding a second A/C, don't really know why I said debating somethingsgotta happen here or we wont enjoy our new camp trailer.

What I have found so far! I pulled the vent covers off and found the mainA/C has three seperate ducts. One to the back of the camper, one to the center living area, and the other runs to the kitchenandalso has to push all the way to the bedroom. (no vent in the bathroom gotta have a vent in the bathroom)! I have check all the vents and the air temp comming out is roughly 65 deg. Do you really need a second A/C or is it possible to increase the air flow by just adding a secondary blower unit? Any ideas?

You live in Texas and have the Sahara which will absorb heat because of the color you are going to need a second AC if you want to stay cool in the Summer. Even with dual pane windows we would never own a unit living here without a second AC unit in the bedroom.

How does the second unit work in conjunction with the main unit?

Are they both tied into the same ductwork, air flow is just increased?

Can they run independently?

Does the mainunit always run and you can turn on/off the second?

Is 60-65 deg. comming out of the vents cold enough, will the second unit drop the temps?

I can only speak for our unit but the two units we have are both ducted and have independent thermostats. When we are camping in the Summer we run both units at around 72* to 74* during the day which is comfortable to us and at night we can usually get by with just the main unit after sunset although we have used both units at night when needed. The air flow to the whole trailer is increased because you have two units blowing cold air out all the vents as opposed to one unit struggling to keep up. When our units are set to 72* to 74* during the day they will both cycle on and off as they cool the area down. The main one will run longer because it has a larger area to cool compared to the bedroom unit. Hope this helps.

If your <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace w:st="on">Sahara</st1lace>, is prewired for the 2nd a/c & you have the Duo Therm Comfort Control digital thermostat, then your thermostat will accept more than 1 zone. Example: the living area will be zone 1 & the bedroom area zone 2. They will or can be ducted together in the same duct work. They can run together or you can have only zone 1 or just zone 2 running.

Thanks for the info and tips. I know the air flow to the front vents is very minimal with only one AC. I currently leave the quick cool vent open a bit even now.

Great, I am glad to see they went to digital instead of the old analog they use to use. Our Duo Therm Comfort Control works great for controling two AC units.

Our 2010 came with the Duo Therm Comfort Control digital thermostat. We only have one A/C unit but like the way it controls the fan speed automatically.

Yes. Picked up 2012 ST30RE with duo therm temp controller. Nice unit. Problem to date was breaker tripped after using the 15K a/c and the electric water heater at same time. Slight melt on power cord too, at Florida State park. Dealer suggests I use the gas heater when using the a/c to avoid this and to consider the gas on the fridge too.

15k a/c is just enough but if I have guests with door opening and closing, the rv gets warm (75 degrees), partial shade and midday. Second a/c was not available from dealer (requested factory instillation) on order, both delined. May look into the a/c units that go under front bed. Anyone know who makes these?
