OK everyone... I took the Cruiser out Friday for the 1st trip..
The oops happened after I was hooked up, I backed up a little too much and crunched the rear ladder, no damage to the trailer thank goodness.

Only went a few miles from the house out to Holiday Park on Lake Benbrook, good sites there a lot of room between other trailers... only down thing is no sewer available.

I had forgotten how much time it took to load an empty trailer for the 1st time...especially by myself. Got everything I loaded (I thought).

I arrived at 3:30pm and had the unit set up in 30 minutes with the exception of the awning, the strap was wrapped up in the awning, The the guy across from me helped be get the awning down.. I had a 6 foot ladder with me.
You always meet great and helpful people while RVing...
Had the the chairs set up and the dogs all settled in and sat down to drink some water... yes water....
Everything worked great, AC cycled like it was suppose to, hot water heater had the water hot in no time...

Had the unit plugged in at home so the Fridge was already cold.

Cranked up the TV antenna and could not get a signal checked the TV and do not think it is a digital type. It is an older flat screen tube type, so guess I will have to get a converter...

OK now for the second oops.... went to crank down the antenna and the the plastic handle striped out and the long plastic insert fell out, no biggie... retrieved the vice grips from the tool box, made 2 turns and it would not budge.. would not turn clockwise or counter clockwise...
Did not want to put too much pressure on it...
And because I broke the ladder I could not get on the roof. The 6 foot ladder was not tall enough for me to get these old bones up on the roof. The man across the road came over with his son and the son was able to get on the roof and get the antenna down. The gears are striped out and he used a couple of bungee cords to hold it down...

So new ladder $100, new antenna $150, experience Priceless....

I will post pictures later...

Mike,

The broken antenna crank may be a result of too little use and the Texas heat. Now the damaged ladder? I don't know. At least you will be an old pro with this unit before the Texas rally.

You are correct. I meant get a new antenna and a digital box for the TV. It is an old flat screen tube type...

Consider yourself lucky could've been a lot worse.

As the old saying goes,

"There are those that have and those that haven't,

sooner or later, those that haven't will become those that have". Murphy's Law, rule 13

There was a guy at this year's TX Rally that ripped out a good chunk of his fender well.

It madea heck of mess, said he didn't know what happened, must have backed over a stump.

He was lucky, it come very close to getting into the slide track.

Speaking of Texan's. My wife is a Texan. Bless her heart when we purchased our last 5er in 2006. The first day when we brought it home and I was backing it in the storage building. She was behind watching and guiding me. She forgot about the storage overhang shelf. Backed me right into the shelf crushing the ladder. I purchased a new ladder, Rv flex caulking and repaired it. To this day when I'm backing the new 5er in the building; I always say " Watch the storage shelf". She doesn't like it to much. Not being mean, just trying to keep it from happening again. This North Carolina man Loves his Texan.

LOL...good to hear I am not the only one with an incident first time out. I was too busy watching where I was going...not what was going on behind me. I clipped a van parked (mayne too closely) on the edge of the road at the campground. Broke off the city water connection and busted a taillight on the van. Fortunately, $20 and an hour later I had a new city water connector to install and they had our ins. info for a new taillight.

oops?

First time I ever pulled my 5th wheeler, I made a right turn in town, and heard a loud bang, and the whole rig rocked like I'd taken "incoming." Somewhere between the dealer and home, which is 47 miles, the emergency brake away cable got stuck under the pin box, and when I made that 90 degree turn, it pulled the chord out.
My first though was that I had hit the power pole on the corner, and all I could imagine was that I wrecked out trailer the first time we ever pulled it, but a quick look in the mirror dispelled that fear. I had to pull forward far enough to clear in intersection, and by the time I did, the distinct smell of locked breaks was as obvious as the smoke pouring out of the wheels.
Knowing now that the trailer breaks had locked up I was trying to figure out what was wrong when a guy ran across the street with a small lock cutter. He just smiled at me and said, "...no problem, I can fix this quick." (The traffic was getting backed up, and they were getting mean by this time.) He quickly reached into the bed of my truck, cut the emergency break cable, popped the pin back into the 5er and ran back across the street and said, "You're good to go, enjoy." It took a few nervous forays, but we did learn to "enjoy.!"

LynLou95 it happened to me the first year I had my 5er. Fortunately I was just able to plug it back in because the breakaway cable didn't get wrapped around anything other than the hitch slide rail. I changed to a Zip Fastway coiled breakaway cable after that and I've had no problems since.

I would say forget the converter box, and shop for a new, flat-screen, digital TV. Perhaps with a DVD player built in, and one that runs on 12Volts. They're new, light-weight, and not too expensive. If you're TV isn't digital, it's probably more than 10 yrs old, and not going to last much longer. Shop around.

Like, Ruck said, "ahh the joys of RVing." I always advise first time buyers that if they're not handy with tools...find another hobby. Especially with the conditions of our Interstate system, something is going to break, that's a given.

Don't feel bad my brand new Cruiser 5er took off down the hill after I unhooked. The front legs slid on top of leaves and came to stop at bottom of hill with no damage except my pride. That was my oops.
