I went to drain the hot water heater in our coach this morning as some possible freezing weather is coming.I did not want to do a full winterization as we are going to be using the coachSun - Tues next week. The place wherewe keep it stored has an excellent on-site RV repair shop. Being a novice I asked the shop owner what size the drain plug bolt would be. His response was "7/8" as most are". He loaned me a 7/8 wrench and I went to do the job. Well, the bolt is not 7/8. I went back over to the shop and the guy seemed floored. In his small parts store he looked at a package of plastic replacement drain plugs. It turned out the plugs are 24mm. Back I went with his 24mm wrench to complete the job.

We have an Atwood hot water heater in our 2010 CF31QB.

So, this is just a heads up for any other novices out there wanting to drain their hot water heater in their late model Cruisers.

Well I sure wouldn't want to split hairs, but there are 25.4 milimeters per inch.

24 milimeters is approx 1/64 of an inchmore than 7/8 of an inch.

My 7/8" socket works just fine, even though it's a tad tight

The hot water heater is probably one of the last items that would freeze. It would take some really cold temps to bring 10 gallons of water that is styrofoam insulated below freezing. I would be more worried about the pipes and traps.

I just use an 8 inch adjustable (cresent) wrench. Seems to work fine.
