Would appreciate some help - we have a cruiser 30SK; where is the HW bypass valve located? Had it winterized and wil be de-winterizing for trip to Fla in Jan and assume I will need to bypass the HW heater. Thanks for any help out there.

Welcome to the forum,

The access to your bypass valve depends on the year of your 30SK. Mine is an 07 and you can get to the valve by removing the access panel (4 screws)under the sink counter top on the far right hand side. If your's is a newer model with the additional cabinets on the wall next to the stairs, you will need to get that info from one of our members with the new floor plan. I'm sure someone will be on here shortly with that answer.

My procedure for winterizing is to hook up the Cruiser and head south before it starts to freeze. In fact I just got here in Arizona yesterday in front of our first winterstorm.

As far as the winterizing process using the bypass valve goes, I have never done it so I better let one of those who have explain it.

I must be missing something here. Why the big deal about the Hot H20 by pass valve.

If you remove the cap or open the valve to drain the fresh water tank,

remove the Hot H20 heater drain plug,

open the two low point drain valves and

open the faucets to the lav, bath/showerand kitchen sink -

the system will evacuate itself of any water in the lines.

This will occur thru the normal siphoning effect.

I do this every time I leave a CG where I suspect a lot of chemicals, especially lime and iron, in the water.

If I'm winterizing, I leave everything open, otherwise I'll replace my supply of fresh water to about 50% when I get home.

The only reason for the HW bypass is when you winterize using antifreeze, you really don't want to put 5 or 6 gallons in to fill the HW heater.

By using the bypass, I can winterize with 1.5 gal.

Since I drain and evacuate the Hot H2O system and lines, I see no need for anti-freeze in that area. That's just something else to clean up when de-winterizing for your first trip out in the spring.

The only thing I use anti-freeze for -is the potty H20 (1/2 gal w/4.0 gals of fresh water)

split the other 1/2 gal for the "P" traps in the shower/lav sink/and kitchen.
