For all you guys with TX RV license plates.
Found out this week as I was about to re-new my RV plates, that a new fee schedule went into effect with August 2011 renewals.

1st category is up to 6000s – gross weight.
2nd category is from 6001#s to 10,000#s – gross weight - $65.00
3rd category is from 10001#s to 18,000#s – gross weight. - $121.00
Here’s the glitch or better yet, the kicker.
Some, but not all of the Tax assessors are reading something into the equation that is basically not there.
In other words, they are interpreting the manual as saying they are to use the GWVR as stated by the mfg’er. I happened to come by a copy of the TX renewal manual and it simply does not say that.
It defines gross weight and states they “can use the mfg’er GVWR for initial or renewals.
It does not say, “must, will or use. The wording is superfluous and ambiguous
Bottom line, if you have a recent certified weight from a reputable scale such as CAT scales, they can’t dispute the gross weight as stated or defined by the manual. If you don’t have a recent weight, then I suggest you clean out all the unnecessary “items you’re hauling around and get an updated weight.
Most of the Cruisers will fall
above the 10k GVWR as stated from Crossroads, However, when you put every thing on board including minimum propane and very little or no water, you come out well below the 10k. There is almost a 100% increase in renewal fees when you go into category #3.
In my case my gross weight of my CF28CK was 8350# loaded with min water and min propane.I talked with four different Tax offices in the NE TX area,
only one said I had no choice, they would use GVWR as stated by the mfg’er regardless.
