For all you guys with TX RV license plates.

Found out this week as I was about to re-new my RV plates, that a new fee schedule went into effect with August 2011 renewals.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

1st category is up to 6000s – gross weight.

2nd category is from 6001#s to 10,000#s – gross weight - $65.00

3rd category is from 10001#s to 18,000#s – gross weight. - $121.00

Here’s the glitch or better yet, the kicker.

Some, but not all of the Tax assessors are reading something into the equation that is basically not there.

In other words, they are interpreting the manual as saying they are to use the GWVR as stated by the mfg’er. I happened to come by a copy of the TX renewal manual and it simply does not say that.

It defines gross weight and states they “can use the mfg’er GVWR for initial or renewals.

It does not say, “must, will or use. The wording is superfluous and ambiguous

Bottom line, if you have a recent certified weight from a reputable scale such as CAT scales, they can’t dispute the gross weight as stated or defined by the manual. If you don’t have a recent weight, then I suggest you clean out all the unnecessary “items you’re hauling around and get an updated weight.

Most of the Cruisers will fall above the 10k GVWR as stated from Crossroads, However, when you put every thing on board including minimum propane and very little or no water, you come out well below the 10k. There is almost a 100% increase in renewal fees when you go into category #3.

In my case my gross weight of my CF28CK was 8350# loaded with min water and min propane.I talked with four different Tax offices in the NE TX area, only one said I had no choice, they would use GVWR as stated by the mfg’er regardless.

Just registered our CT29RLX and the empty weight is 6900 and the gross weight they used is 11540.I changed my registration from NY to Tx and the total was $245. I thought she told me it would be about $145 next year. Where do they get the gross weight from, the empty weight was on the NY title? Will theychange the weight with a certified weight from a CAT scale?

As mentioned above, the gross weight they are using is the mfg'ers "gross vehicle weight rating" (GVWR)as listed on the mfg'ers delivery statement. It is filed in Austin DMV as a "Certificate of Orgin for a Vehicle".

Youhardly ever see those statements or declarations since they are forwarded to tax office with the title applications if bought from a dealer. In the case of transferring title from one state to another, you must show taxes paid. They have a computer readout that lists all the RV Mfg'ers models and weights.

If you want to see this declaration, you can get a copy thru you local tax office by requesting same, which you may have to pay a fee.

The only way possible is to file for an ammendedtax statementshowing the gross weight as outfitted and ready for the road. Youy must have a certrified weight ticket as proof.

Actually looking at it, no big deal. Registration on mine when purchased was about $119 and change. Now $121. BUT My PU is going from $91.75 down to about $67. I won on the deal....

Just had our CT29RLX weighed at the CAT scales and the GVW is 8280 lbs, hitch weight was 1060 lbs. which is included in the 8280. That weight was loaded with everything but water.Texas MV had the unit listed at 11540 lbs. Total cost for the two weighs was $10.50. Getting under the 10,000 lbs should save about $60 per year on the registration. I hope the trip to MV goes smoothly.

It will provided you carry your CAT weight slips with you for proof. Also carry the page from the DMV website, shown in an earlier reply in this thread, that gives you the option of how much weight to register.

If you don't, they will most likely hit you with the mfger's GVWR.

No problems with Tx DMV today. Had to pay another $33 for the new title. They adjust the carying capacity which reduces the GVW. I was unable to get a refund for this year, thought I would ask since I hadjust registered it two weeks ago.
