I just ordered a new power cord for my Cruiser from Crossroads and plan to install it when it arrives.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Do you guys have any advice for a novice?

I have replaced the 12V power cord that connects my trailer to my truck....but imagine the shore power cord is a bit more involved.

Realizing that the cord CAN NOT be plugged in to the shore power when I begin this project...are there any other rules I should follow?

Would really appreciate any pointers,

Terry,I replaced the power cord that came on our old Cruiser with a 50' I bought at CW. It is pretty straight forward just remove the old one and install the new one. It was kind of tight around the breaker box when I did ours but if you take your time it will not be a problem. You already have the most important issue covered (making sure the trailer is not connected to shore power) butI also disconnected the battery just to make sure. I took the old 25' cord out that came with the trailer and put a new end on it and used it as an extention cord for the trailer if we ever needed it. I also made sureI did ours on a bright sunny day so I had plenty of light in the trailer so I could see good.Let us know how it goes.

You have to disconnect the battery or it will back feed and tick you off when it buzzes you. experience trust me

Gotta ask Chris, are you running an Inverter? The Converter should not take DC an make AC. If this was the case, we'd have to insulate the cord prongs every time we disconnect from shore power. Unless you had something flaky going on in your converter...or did you maybe accidently get across the DC lugs? Not trying to argue, just trying to figure out what could have happened.

And I agree with you and Keith, I'd probably disconnect the battery anyway, but you shouldn't HAVE to.

As you know, the converter provides 12vdc from 120vac in. I can't imagine anyway 12vdc in would provide 120vdc out (as in an inverter). I've never opened a converter up but is there a possibility there are capacitors that are charged up and that's what you are feeling?

If so, ground the input to discharge the capacitors.

I understand all the posts. And thak you for the concerns but I really like my curly hair now.

I haven't looked for the capacitors but do know I get buzzed. It's not the buzz that hurts me... it's my elbow when I jerk my arm back. Anyhow better safe than sorry!

Chris:
When you jerk your arm back and get that buzz in your elbow-
that's what we call hitting your crazy bone.

Chris...I have a feeling the buzz you are getting has nothing to do with capacitors. I think it comes in a bottle and is typically a clear liquid served over ice.

Good choice imho. But the clear liquid over ice is recommended after all electrical work is done and you are relaxing in the lounge chair.
