I'm wondering if anyone might have come up with ideas for protecting the rug in their Crossroads 30SKP? I tried to order the trailer without it but it would seem that wasn't possible. I'm worried that the edges are going to wear prematurely and that the carpet will get dirty in no time. We have a well-behaved Golden Retriever but he's hairy and brings in some of the "outside". I bought a great little Dirt Devil vacuum and I will likely buy a small carpet to cover the existing one but I wondered if perhaps there's a better solution?

Thank you.

YOu can go to Home Depot Or Lowes and get that sticky clear stuff in a roll, I will call it carpet runner ???

Wish we could have got ours with out carpet, They say you can do it, It's just an option they don't tell you about.

Would this be the "plastic" runners that come on a roll, sold by the foot to the length that you want? I guess I wasn't sure what you meant by "sticky". I wish they would at least have put some sort of edging strip.

I was told you need the carpet for the slide to move on but I'm not sure I buy into that completely.

This is the same stuff you might see in a new camper at a camper show. It comes on a roll and it thin, has a sticky back.

I didn't know this product existed. This might be very useful, particularly to cover the carpet in front of the dinette closest to the door. I'm not sure if you are in the US but if so hopefully Lowes or Home Depot carry this product in Canada. I will look into it though.

Thank you so much.

I hadsome carpet left over when we re-carpeted our house.

The color was almost a perfect match.

I cut two pieces and placed them by the door and in front of the steps going into the bedroom.

In addition, I found a floor mat that has green plastic bristle from a local home improvement store and placed that over the carpet when weather is bad.

I also have a shoe/boot cleaner that I place outside and it gets the biggest part of any dust and dirt.

So far the carpet looks basically new. However, we don't have a lot of little feet beating a path in and out while we're camping.

The shoe/boot cleaner is something I hadn't thought of...that would at least help the 2-foot creatures that enter the trailer. If you've ever camped in Provincial Parks in the rain, you know what debris can be brought inside, even when careful. Ah well I shouldn't get too overly concerned, I just want to protect our investment....

I did find the perfect clear step cover that works great so at least that will have some protection.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my post.

I'm wondering if there would be some sort of edging product on the market that could at least protect the edges of the carpet (transition from carpet to floor). It would have to be something flexible that could follow the curve of the carpet.

On our maiden voyage in June, we placed our dog's blankets on top of the carpet to protect it but it wasn't very attractive. I'm sure there are many of us in this forum that curse that light-colored carpet.

I was told you need carpet for the slide to move on to yet the kitchen slide only has a piece of carpeting under the slide and then runs just fine like that over the floor. I'd be all for no carpeting with the exception "maybe" being the living room area.

I don't buy into the carpet is needed for the slide. They sell a piece of plastic like material, to protect the carpet from slide wear. Also on the WWW.RV.net fopum, several people have replaced their carpet with laminates etc. Jim

Yes if I'm not mistaken some folks from somewhere on this forum have also done the same. I should have another look to find them and see how they are faring with their slides without the carpet. I think Crossroads needs to hear from us on this one.

Yes I did....replaced the carpet with laminate flooring. Just came back from a 300 mile trip, precede by a couple of 100 milers....NO problem with the floor, as it "floats."

I made 2 floor "protectors" from the kitchen linolium and put them at each end of the living room slide to protect the floor when closing the slide.

I plan on attending the factory rally, next year, so they can see this "can't be done" thing

[By the way, NEVER tell a woman that "it can't be done" as some dealers told her.]Edited by: seabee

Jim would this be the laminate flooring laid by the piece or by the sheet?

Oh and hold steady there.....are you referring to "this woman" or just speaking generally

Oops sorry Walt, I called you Jim.

Thanks for the great info. Of course we won't make any drastic changes just yet as our unit is new and I wouldn't want to chance any issues with warranty but I'll write down your info as a great option to try in the future.

Got to love this forum for ideas

Walt, you sounds like an engineer (47.83"). Did you really measure it down to the hundredth of an inch? What about expansion and contraction, that dimension might move some
Great idea though, I'll do like Dave and wait until my warranty runs out.

We have FOUR dogs, the main reason we RV. Went to Kohl's for a maybe 6 X 9 throw rug, matches the interior. It gets unrolled before anyone comes in the trailer...along with four matching machine washable throw rugs, one at the door, the other in front of the sink. Very little carpeting "exposed." 3 summers, close to 20,000 miles, carpeting looks almost new. Been to a lot of sloppy, muddy, sandy CG's. When we get home throw the towels, sheets, and rugs in the washer. If I order a new 5er, it'll have linoleum....and a bunch of throw rugs.
