I bought a new 2012Crossroads Cruiser in November of 2012. Five months later I contacted Camping World about rusting lug nuts and wheel hubs. They had me take pictures and said they would contact the manufacturer (Crossroads) to see if warranty would cover it because they wouldn't. The unit has only been used twice for camping and stays under a covered shelter when not being used. Crossroads denied the warranty saying they don't cover rust. I did not read the entire warranty before purchasing but I have to say I would not expect this after owning it for only 5 months. I like the fifth wheel but would not recommending purchasing anything from a company that treats its customers this way.

When we bought our PP about 6 months in we had two of the aluminum wheels start to discolor and two of the metal center caps start to rust. They were covered under the 2 year warranty. But that was a different Crossroads back then.

This is my first fifth wheel purchase. I thought I did some good research before purchasing but I guess it's like insurance. You never know what is or is not covered until you have a problem.

Welcome to the new Crossroads. Pardon my sarcasm.

redfish, what part of the country do you live in? If you are by any chance in an area of high humidity, and if your camper is stored inside on a dirt or gravel floor, I can understand how things could rust. You might want to purchase a fan for the storage building and keep it running 24/7 so there is some air movement.

fans in winter storage has nothing to do with 'chinese chrome" lug nuts. . Even the stainless steel from there rusts and discolors. I had North American made lug nuts put on my other trailer and they still look good after 7 yrs.

Fans in storage keeps the air moving and helps a lot of things. Sorry to say it can't prevent everything.

Try spraying with WD40 and wiping off if it is surface rust it will come right off and the 40 will help keep it away

Mine rust too - I wax them when I service the bearings/brakes in the spring. Probably could be replaced by ones with better chrome finish.

I must be doing something right. I don't have any rust, and I've have one of the older rigs on the forum.

I agree with harley it is just because they use cheap lug nuts. The camper is stored under a 14' high aluminum carport with a concrete slab. The part I can't believe is that Crossroads is will ing to loose a customer over the price of a set of lug nuts. I'm going to buy a good set and replace the cheap ones on there. It's not the money, it's the principle.

Thanks for the thoughts. My fifth wheel is under a 14' high aluminum carport and sits on a concrete slab. I think it's just the quality of the lug nuts. I'm going to replace them with a better quality. Does anyone know anything about Mcgard lug nuts? the reviews look pretty good. It's not the money for new lug nutsthat bothers me. It's knowing I bought the RV from a compant that thinks so little of it's customers.

That might be the problem, if it is a recent pour. There are some lime used in the mixture of concrete that will emit a gas for over a year. This gas hates metal and will cause rust. The solution is to seal it. Have seen this in cars that people have stored in new storage units

Mine were rusty brand new on the lot. They changed them out with some bought locally. So far so good.

redfish,Mcgard lug nuts are good quality. I had them on a tandem axle boat trailer and never had rust problems in and out of the water all the time. It</span>is a shame they are getting so picky they won't even change those out for you under warranty. I mean what would they have to do, put them in the mail?</span>

Bought our crossroads cf30sk last year same issue with lug nuts and center cap, no major issue with crossroads as dealer replaced them at no cost. The dealer knows the small cost associated with this replacement means happy customer and will equal return buyer. Hopefully crossroads or your dealer will see the light.
