I have the HWT 16" "mag" wheels on my trailer (see pic) I need to replace the rubber stems with metal for the TPMS system. Does anyone know the correct hole size and/or what stems will work. The inset hole on the outside doesn't seem very large so I'm wondering what will fit in it and still be able to tighten it?

TIA

It should be small hole. They make only 2 sizes for cars and trucks. The stems will very in lenght.

Clif:

Check with Discount Tire. They installed metal stems on my trailer at a very reasonable price. The wheels look very similar.Edited by: gball

Mine also as you can not trust those factory china stems,I lost two tires because of their failure on the road>>.There seemed to be no problem getting the stems for our mag type wheels! jb

mine came with metal valve stems.... It must be from crossroads. I can't see the dealer installing them.

Called 3 different Discount Tire stores. Hem-haw and beat around the bush, we'll call you back, etc.

If I take it somewhere I worry about them jacking it up on the axles and causing problems. I'm thinking of using the Trailer Aid I have, pulling off one tire and putting on the spare, then moving the Trailer Aid and removing the other tire on that side. Hauling them in and getting stems and balanced with the TPMS installed. Repeat on the other side. Also checking wheel bearings while there.

Any thoughts? Easier ways?

Which one did you use Mike???

I found that sometimes your local RV dealership or RV repair service has "a guy" that does their tire service work. That's how I found the guy who installed my metal stems and balanced all four in about 45 minutes. Reasonable price and he knew what he was doing. You know the guy who has a small tire shop and gets by with referrals.

Most know enough to jack under the spring perch not on the axle, otherwise instruct them to do it that way. To me it would be way stupid to do it under the axle out from under the spring mount!Duh!!!!! I don't agree with Jacking up the whole side of the trailer as some recommend as can you begin to imagine the stress and twist that puts on a unit while doing it? Doing it as I do is no different than driving down the road and hitting the normal or less road conditions. You only need to get the tire an inch or so off the ground and you are good.
