Toilet Foot Pedal

Has anyone else had their foot pedal fall off their toilet? Ours did - then the spring fell on the floor.....pretty damn flimsy construction. I borrowed a pair of vice-grips and managed to reinsert the spring, and re-attach the foot pedal - me-thinks it is not going to last....... Warranty call here we come...

That is the first that I've heard of this problem.

I guess no component is exempt from breakage.

Darrell,

Well this is a first! I would be glad to help you with this warranty call/issue if you are getting no where when you call. Please let me know and keep my informed. Good luck and I'm sorry about your pedal.

Yes, I think it was two years ago.

Ours was the side pedal on the Thetford.
The new pedal cost $75.00 from Thetford and the on line installation video was great.
I took a short cut with installation and did NOT remove the toilet to a work bench but just aligned the spring and foot pedal and whacked it hard with my hand. So far, so good!
I did add lubrication to the new pedal because friction and wear was the demise of the old pedal.
Hope you get it working because manually activating that valve is a real pain!

Ours broke last year. We were out of warranty so cost me a little over $200 to have the lower portion of the toilet replaced. Tech said that this is a common problem and that he had replaced many.

I managed to put it back together, but has again fallen off. However, all the Kings Horses and all the Kings Men helped to put it back together again.....I will attempt a warranty call when I get back to Nova Scotia.

Our fell off the very first time we used it on our brand new Sunset Reserve. Rather than ditch the summer with the grands, we bought a new toilet. Its so much better than the piece of junk that came with our 2016 unit.

Not worth fixing

We had this same toilet in our last Travel Trailer. Replaced the foot pedal and associated parts. Lasted 2 months, that wa in 2012.. Ditched the whole thing and put in a new Sealand toilet. Was very disappointed when we saw the Thetford toilet in our new Cruiser. It seems to be the standard toilet in many units. The great thing about the Sealand is it takes a house toilet seat.

Ours fell off a month after buying our Cruiser. Since our dealer dropped the Crossroads brand right after purchase, I had to call manufacturer. In a few days, the exact same toilet arrived by UPS at my front door! I installed the new one myself and haven't had anymore issues with the foot pedal. LOL. I sure wish the toilet had been the last of my troubles!

Mine toilet was in a 2012 Cruiser, foot pedal came off also. Not sure of the brand name. I was able to drill through the rotating part and ran a long bolt, with washers and self-locking nut. Still working.

If you have more problems with the Thetford POS toilet, replace it with the Dometic 310 or 320, 310 is a round bowl, 320 is an elongated bowl similar to residential, either is a huge upgrade to the Thetford.

Forgot to mention, you can completely rebuild the Dometic for $20-30 without removing the toilet.

I've had this same crappy (no pun intended) toilet in my last two units. Failed both times, same thing, foot pedal came off. My first mod is to add a water shut off behind the toilet. Simple to do, cut the hose, add shut off valve between two ends.

I've already priced a replacement, Dometic Model 320 Ceramic Toilet, it's $189.99 on Amazon. The 320 uses a standard home type seat and has an elongated bowl. Just have to see if there is sufficient room in the bathroom for the elongated bowl. Being a full figured guy, the standard toilet is like a fancy bucket.

I actually like the Thetford better. The domestics I've had all banged loudly when the valve closes. I know that lowering the water pressure helps but it still bangs loud enough to wake someone sleeping near by.
