Hello. 1st time poster. Just placed an order for a 30SKP 2011. 2011 F250 4X4. I am curious if the increased height of the 4X4 will affect the level of the 5th wheel. I have just ordered the cruiser so now wuld be the time for any neccesary modifications. Thanks

Unless you have a lift kit on it there should not be an issue. When you pick the trailer up and do your PDI make sure the dealer gets you hooked up and adjust your hitch and trailer for bedrail clearance and to get it as level as possible.

I pull my CF30QB with a '07 F250 4x4 with the 20" wheel option. No issues here... have about a 2 closed fist clearance. I would think you should be fine without any adjustment.
I really like those 2011 diesels. Hearing great things about that new Ford built engine.

Hi, Thanks for the info. I am really enjoying the new Ford diesel. It is so far all they say it is supposed to be. I am presently getting 19mpg around town. I am a Ford guy but it seems they have a great product in the 6.7 Diesel.

I hope so. The 6.0L and the 6.4L have been nightmares for Ford.. When I was last at the dealership I was speaking with the diesel tech and he was telling me that he's seen reports where the new 6.7 was getting 17mpg pulling a 10,000 lb trailer. I questioned what kinda of trailer.. a trailer of bricks or a high profile trailer.

You were right to question the tow load. With no wind resistance and a flat low profile load I can believe that mpg. My last vehicle was a 2005 Ranger 4.0 4X4 I never averaged better the 18.6mpg. So I am happy to get 19 on a 8cyl diesel and that is in the city. Taking a little road trip soon so we will get a better idea of average mpg. Ford built this one and they seem to be on a new path with all thier vehicles. Time will tell.

Good to here the Ford Crew got it together, not that the "old" IH 7.4 diesels were bad.Being a GM guy I couldn't buy Ford, but have fun with all that power!! Them diesels just are plain awsome, I can't stop raving about mine,I know once you get hooked up to the new rig you'll even be MORE happy.

Ford announced last week that in response to GM's new 2011 Silverado and Sierra taking the diesel power and towing lead they were making several immediate significant changes. First, the diesel's engine computer is being reprogrammed to produce 65 more pound feet of torque and 10 more horsepower, each a bit more than GM. Second, they are changing the frame of F-350 Super Duty modelsbeing produced to have better cargo/towing capacity. The engine reprogram will be made available at no charge to all 2011 Super Duty owners and should take about 20 minutes. The program begins August 31st. The frame strengthening is another story. Guess you would have to buy another F-350 truck to get that improvement to be able to tow a 22,600 pound 5ver.

Heard about the Ford upgrade.. Letters go out on the 31st. I have read on the net that both the duramax and ths scorpion(Ford) diesel are already capable of much greater horsepower and torque. They would require minor modification, it would however challenge the durability. I guess we could be looking at 500hp in the not to distant future. Nice looking rig. Happy trails

Only trouble with these new trucks is cost. They have become outrageously expensive. I'll stick with my 04.5 Cummins. 325HP, 600lb. tourque and no payments. 97,000 miles and still runs like a top.

Hey Mike
I just retired and I figure I earned itso I will spend it. Not planning on leaving it all behind. You are correct they are quite expensive. I hope to be telling your same story a few years down the road, because they are not going to get cheaper.
Dodge makes a good product and the cummings has earned its rep. Keep on truckin Al

Mike, mine has 92k on it and I am keeping it for the same reason you keep yours. I liked the looks of the new Fords but once I started reading about the UREA system on them and the Chevy's I decided to keep what I have. I don't want to have to pour 5 to 6 gallons of UREA in a tank every 5k to 7500 miles just to meet emmisions standards.

I just picked up my 2011CF30CKP last Thursday. The way the dealer set up the rig I thought the trailer looked really close to the sides of the bed. But what do I know. My stock 2008 4x4 Chevy 2500HD extended cab is fairly tall. Sure enough when I tried to back the trailer up my gravel driveway, the twisting brought the trim screws on the trailer cap across my bed sides. It wasn't pretty. No serious damage; just scratched paint. I removed the bottom cap trim screws and replaced them with flat head recessed screws to get the minute clearance I needed. Also had to throw planks down tokeep the truck as level as possible relative to the trailer. The hitch is a Reese Pro Series slider and when I use the manuvering position I also scratch my tailgate with the pin box with even the slightest twisting. I just checked the Reese instructions on-line and they call for at least 6 inches of clearance; way more than I have. They call for more if going off-road. They also call for towing as level as possible but apparently, not if you don't have enough clearance. Tomorrow I will extendthe pin box another inch lower for more clearance,

I adjusted the pinbox and the hitch head all the way for max clearance. I now have 5-5.5" which for me is bare minimum. Check your hitch location mounting in the bed because when my Reese slider is in maneuver position I can swing all around without hitting the tailgate. I don't think yours should hit either.

Thanks Stan. I did what I said I would do and my pin box is at the lowest setting too. I have almost 7 inches of clearance to the sides of the bed and in the manuvering position I no longer brush the tailgate. I have 1.5 inch high aluminum framing for my tonneau cover that eats up some of that 7 inch clearance on the sides. The framing can be removed but not easily so the extra clearance is a big help. I was gouging up the aluminum framing with the screw heads on the trim on the bottom of the cap.
