To buy or not to buy!!!!!!!
We are at the crossroads so to speak with ourresearching extended warranties. Our Ford F150 is the truck we use for towing our Crusier around the country.. We did purchase one when we bought it from Ford in 04, that covers up to 60,000which is now becoming void soon.We have usedthe policytwice since then.
So we are looking foryour thoughts, on this matter.
No snow here yet!!!!! However it is going to get down to 17 on Thursday eve.
Thanks Karen & Larry

My only advice to you would be to ONLY buy a manufacturer's extended warranty. Avoid third party extended warranties at all costs. I was burned once by a very large 3rd party warranty company when they went bankrupt. Also, the reliability of third party warranties is in question. There is one company, a NASCAR team sponsor and major TV advertiser who is in major trouble in many states because they fail to honor their warranties. Check out the prospective company's rating with the local Better Business Bureau in its home city.

Simple! The seller is betting you will spend more money than they do!
They do a lot more of this than you do and they know the odds (kind of like a casino).
So how do you bet?

We want to start touring the US so a 125,000 8 year warrenty was a great piece of mind for us. Our truck does not do much more then tow our camper 24,000 miles in 2& 1/2 years. I have 40 years as a mechanic and I will be the frist to say the car company has made it to expensive to keep up with the electronics. I will not do this for a camper most things are easy enough and priced where we can fix them.

You have to look at all extended warranties as an insurance policy, Like Charles I have been in the automotive industry, but with all of these new electronics and fancy fuel injection systems, they run into money real quick, so a extended warranty is a can be real helpful. Get the factory extended if you go this route as all dealers have to accept this one no matter. A third party warranty they can say pay us now and get your money back from them after wards. Some third parties make the garage jump through hoopes to get paid. In my own family, it came in real handy for my son. He bought a VW againist my advice, I made him buy the extended warranty up to 100,000 K at 98,000 miles the motor went bad. That motor in the car was over 10,000 dollars plus labor. That 1200 dollars paid off real big. But this has to be a decision only you can make.

Karen, Just get a Chevy and don't worry about it
I'm sorry, I had too.
As others have said, Only get the factory warranty, As others have said the third party providers are very hard to deal with IMO. I do all of my own work as the others so for me I realize how muchI can save doing things my self. It's amazing what the dealer or any one for that matter gets for some of these repairs. I understand though that every one has to make a living and some people just can't do this type of work. The new cars don't scare me much,
Don't take our word on the third party warranty, Google it and see what people have to say that have experience.

Tundra does well on that same summit, as well as others depending on which direction I go. I have to deal with one going and coming back whichever way I go.

Karen I had family in the new car biz who sold both factory warranties and other party warranties. Stick with only the factory warranties through Ford that has the "Ford" name on it. I'll give you one example of a secondary party warranty. Warranty states "covers all mechanical parts". Fuel pump goes out... Guess what not covered, because the pump is electrical not mechanical. Also, odds are if your truck has been issue free you will probably ok with regular routine maintenance. It's a dice roll. I look at it as with the extended warranty your first repair bill is the cost of the warranty plus deductable.
