Water tank leak
New owner of a 35SS cruiser and first outing after filling water tank, have a dripping leak at the valve. It is not the valve itself, is above it. Has anyone had the coroplast down and can tell me if the hose that has the drain has a crimp fitting at the top? The tank only leaked until it was at 1/3 level then stopped. Thinking maybe a leak at the upper connection is the cause. Thanks for any help offered.

I have a 2017 Sunset Trail that has had two leaks. First leak was from the tank. The factory had put a screw into the tank. Dripped from the underbelly until about 2/3's full.
Second leak was a hose connection into the tank.

If you’re talking about some leakage at the pressure relief valve, that’s normal. The temps of these water heaters are high enough that the tank will bleed off a little water until the pressure is reduced. My source for this is Trailer Life magazine and the Suburban Water Heater manual.

Have not taken the coroplast down yet to search for source of leak, will post when I find it. Was hoping for some info on how it is connected to the tank.

Mine has a nipple/elbow (which screws into the tank) on the openings. Then it's usually a good old hose clamp holding the hose onto it.

Well I got time to look at mine and it has pex pipe onto a 90 elbow, and it’s the bung in the tank that’s leaking. I assume these are glued or plastic welded in place, so maybe some good old silicone around it will cure the leak. Does anyone have a better idea for sealing it up? Thanks

Neil, you are correct, it's pex pipe that comes off the fittings. I wasn't remembering it correctly. The filler pipe is what has the hose with the hose clamp on it. That was what was leaking on mine, and it took a couple trys to get it sealed.
Story was, those big fittings are spun into the tank when they're made, and that seals them. You might do some goggle searching for tank suppliers or manufactures and give them a call to see if its possible to seal it now.

Tank fitting leaking
Cannot remember the product name, but West Marine sells epoxy for rotomolded plastic tanks. It works for fittings and if reinforced it will seal cracks. Have heard Gorilla makes one too. Good luck and happy trails.

Plasti-Mend will not work on Polyethylene plastic. This is usually the opaque milky-white plastic used for water tanks or the milky-grey plastic used for some holding tanks.
I take it that the above statement means it won't work on rv water tanks. Unless I'm reading their add wrong.

You're correct Lloyd. But the tank in the picture is black, which usually indicates it's an ABS tank. Valterra brand tanks are ABS.

It's under warranty. Let them know and take it in after you done with it for the season or if you have time between trips do it then.
