What is the caulk used on the front edge of the front roof seam? The rear edge of the seam is caulked with Dicor. The front almost seems like silicone? Say it ain't so. Edited by: snowman9000

I know what you are talking about. This fall I put 4 in. wide eternbond on that front piece where the cap meets the rubber roof. Mine has a metal strip there that holds the cap and rubber membrane. Where that strip was screwed down there was big gobs of what looked like white silicone. I don't think it was tho, because I trimmed it off with a utility knife and it was pretty hard stuff. So I can't believe it was silicone.

DiCore hardnens like silicone. The differance is the self leveling and adherance to the rubber. Same stuff differant reaction.

I used Eternabond on both sides of my motorhome where the roof meets the sides. It worked great but looks terrible after a year or so. It turns black from the same stuff that creates black streaks but it won't wash off. You can get it cleaner (but not back to white) with auto polish/cleaner but it's one heck of a chore. It worked great sealing a crack in steps for my swimming pool but eventually turns black there too. Has anyone tried painting it? I don't dare.

I just found the sealant cracked wide open on the junction of the EPDM roof and the front fiberglass cap. I found it after discovering water in the closet on the left side of the bed. I made emergency repairs with weatherseal tape. Today I have been browsing the Dicor site and was pondering whether or not tape over that joint, such as DiSeal Patch Sealing Tape, would be a better solution than a 1-1/2" wide glob of sealant. Has the EternBond Tape held up well?

Thank you!

It has held up well on our rig, and also for anyone else I know of that has applied it.
Just make sure the area is clean, and when you put it down have it where you want it to be. It doesn't come back off.

I used Eternabond tape on my previous 5er (The Big Ole Rolling Turd II ). It did an excellent job with the seems. I did mask off the leading edge of the tape and caulked it with dicor.
The masking tape let me do a neat job so I could smooth it with my finger. Looked good.
Like Lloyd said, cleaning the surface is very important. I even bought the cleaner recommended by Eternabond.

Does the Eternabond really last 10 years? I put it on my last camper and wasn't impressed, I still had a leak later on. But that might have been because I had to install it in the middle of winter.

I believe that it is eternabond that seals the edges of the top of the slide outs. It appears to do a great job there and mine has not discolored. I do have to admit that I have wondered if it would discolor and streak if I used it on the roof. I don't know why I think it might... I guess it just looks like it might to me. Like I said it hasn't on my slide out but that is also protected my a slide topper.

I used the Alpha Systems self leveling in beige. The dealer gave me a couple tubes after re-sealing some of the stuff I found doing the PDI. When I found a leak, I resealed the front cap. The adhesive is holding up well.
