My breakaway is not working. Need to know if it has a separate battery (I don't see one) and how it should be wired. Do these switches ever go bad?? 2010 Cruiser CF32CK.

Should be one wire running to your main battery (no separate battery) and one wire to the brakes themselves. I've never personallyhad a breakaway switch go bad but have had the wires to the switch on previous trailers degrade and break and need replacing. If you can check for power to the wires at thebreakaway switch on the pin box (one should be hot), you may be able to eliminatewhether there is abreak in the wireto the battery. Pull the switch out and power should be on both wires as it sends the charge down to the brakes. If you have power only on one side with the pin pulled, it is likely you need to replace the switch itself. Fortunately not an expensive item.

I have also read elsewhere there may be a resettable fusebetween switch and batteryon these so trace the wiring back and look inside the pinbox where the truck wiring is and the wires from the breakaway go. As with all these types of problems start with one thing and keep eliminating the possibilities as you go.

Somebody else may have some other ideas as well and I'm not sure how I explained this makes sense.

I found the problem. A wire at the pin box connection had come loose in the wire nut. Problem solved. Thanks!
