Explain Power Inverter

Can someone help me understand a power inverter?
What does it do?
What is it for?
Do I need one?

I work remotely, so I can work from anywhere as long as I can get internet. So, now during the summers we now plan to take the TT wherever and I will bring my laptop.

An inverter changes DC to AC. The more AC you want to run, the bigger inverter you will need. Which in turn means the more you want to pull off the inverter, the bigger battery bank you will need.

I'm going to guess that while you are traveling and working in the summer, you will be staying at some kind of campsite with electricity. You'll need it for AC, your computer, and everything else. In that case, you don't need a converter. I don't know the size rig you have, but it would take a MONSTER set of batteries to run Air Conditioning for even a small time. Inverters are used by those who like to "boondock", i.e. camp with no hookups, but still want AC power. (TV? Hair dryer? Microwave?) Lights, heater blower, stove fan, and other stuff runs off of 12 Volt battery power. If your concerns are just electronics (computer, phone, etc) then I would look for a 12VDC solution if you are worried you won't have AC power.
