Hot Water Heater

I have a new 28BH and we are having problems setting up the hot water heater. We have LP/Electric Combo and just de-winterized it. I put the drain plug back in and open the valves, but it doesn't seem to heat much water and it is sputtering a considerable amount when it is opened. Not sure I totally understand how to handle the valves (there are two). Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have the bypass open. Should be the valve in between the upper and lower connections. As for the sputtering the hot water heater hasn't filled completely. I usually let the hot run at one of the sinks till it quits sputtering. I was told with those hot water heaters not to use the electric side unless the water heater was full. Hope this helps

If you used the electric side and it wasn't completely full, you may have burnt out the heating element. Easy to replace and usually ACE carries them (120v - 1400-1500 watt)

There should be 3 valves, sounds like you have one closed still.

First make sure the HWH bypass is set correctly. Then hook up to water, don't forget the regulator, and purge all the air out of the lines. Just open all the faucets, shower, and outside shower. When they quit sputtering close off each one at a time. The hot water side will take longer as it has to fill the HWH. Then go around and open open each faucet, cold then hot, and make sure all the lines are purged. No sputtering.

Only then can you turn on the HWH. Also never turn it on without being hooked up to water or having the water tank filled and the pump on.

Wow, you guys are awesome--thanks for the help. Seems to be fixed. The water heater is in an awkward position and I didn't see the other valve. Works great now and really appreciate the help.

Hard to imagine anything would be awkward to get to in an RV...

Inconvenient in mine. You have to remove a panel to get to the back of the HWH. The panel is in a cabinet that has to emptied and getting the panel out would confuse Houdini.

LOL...bummer Clif. There was a "touch" of sarcasm.

We are lucky - panel below drawers in bedroom - suprisingly easy to get to.

And I still can't figure out how to operate this d_-_ water heater. By pass valves, open close, switches both outside and inside, electrical, gas... Is there anyone that can help me who can remember how it was before they became RV engineers. I just read in another post about a drain plug...first I've heard of this. My wife and I are leaving for our first trip this week so I guess I'll just ask someone at the campground for some help. My dealer has been absolutely zero help. I'm not a complete idiot but without so much as ever being in a TT I do need some help.
