After doing a bit more research I have found out that there is no sacrificial anode on a Atwood water heater. I would like to put on anyway. Does anybody know any reason NOT to do this?

I have seen several hwt with no anode and as a plumber do not understand this. The anode as you say is there so that your tank does not get eaten up but the anode does. Wish I could help you but this makes no sense to me.

Sorry I forgot to mention that if your tank has a drain plug just take it to as RV dealer so you can check thread size and they do make anodes in several lengths just replace the plug with the anode and use teflon tape for install. I have seen some tanks where they suggest you use the blowdown valve for draining the tank but this only causes leaking blowdown valves after a couple of times. Then you are replacing a valve at a higher cost.

You might want to do some more research. I think if you put an aluminum anode rod in an aluminum tank water heater you may make a mess of it.

The Atwood tank is made of an alloy that doesn't require an anode rod. The Suburban tank is steel and requires the anode rod. The anode rod for the Suburban I don't believe will fit in an Atwood tank and I don't know of any other brand of rod available. Only problem I have ever had with the Atwood tank is with the plastic drain plug. The treads eventually go bad and wants to crossthread. I just replace it with a brass drain plug from Lowes

2 things an anode rod in an atwood tank can ruin it. and if you use a brass plug you may never get it back out.

What's the purpose of adding one when the manufacturer specifically designed it not to have one????

Cwit, never had a problem with the brass in any of the Atwoods I have owned over the years, but thanks.
