Slide Gear box.

Had my Zinger 31SB in for its one year inspection and check up. I was getting some squealing noise from the slide. I sprayed everything down (with a dry slide spray) that I could see and it still did not go away. They had a hard time with it at the dealer and finally came up with all 4 gear boxes went bad??? Is this Normal?? they are waiting for Crossroads to send them to be replaced. Nice thing they are on warranty. It has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks now hope they get it done soon.

John
Let me guess the gear boxes are made by Lippert...Did that sound cynical... Let me put it like this...Who is the manufacturer of the gear boxes...

I am not sure but I looked them up and that sounds right. Looks like they range about 50 bucks each

Mine does the exact thing. You said your dealer said it was the gearboxes for the slide out?

According to my dealer they are still waiting for the parts. Crossroads put lots of these defective gears into lots of campers and now they are replacing some. The new gear is made out of better material. so hopefully I get mine soon. I would say if yours is noisy get a hold of your dealer and let them know you might get free upgrades.

Just wondering, who manufactures the gearboxes?? They're the culprit, not Crossroads.

Yes and no. CrossRoads at this point knew they had bad gears out there and no recall or even a letter. It still is a Crossroads product they are putting them on.

Johnwill thanks for the info I have a 2014 31sb and I am experiencing the same issue on my main slide. I keep it sprayed with the dried lube and it still is very noisy. I guess I will be making a phone call when we get back from our camping trip.

I guess I should have reworded this thread to Noisy Slides. You are exactly right I went through 2 cans of drylube on the slides and thought I did something wrong.

Sort of. The dealer had my camper for 4 weeks and said that the parts are coming from Crossroads. The day the parts finally arrived they said they call Crossroads and decided to go in and lube it up instead. So now they have the parts and I have the camper. They never installed the parts. I was able to open it and no noise. But then ran into another problem. As it opened I had caulking on the front slide window and slide. Someone caulked the inside corner of the slide just under the rubber. Not sure why. The dealer said they didn't do it. They said it was from the factory. Never had a problem with it before. I have been on the phone and email with Cross roads and they say they didn't do it. But it is all over the rubber slide and now stuck together and I don't want to close the slide because it may pull the rubber off. I was able to clean most of it off the side of the slide with Goof Off, but I was not able to clean it under the back layer of rubber. I called the dealer and I put the check on hold and will not release it until this is cleaned off and they put the gutter extension back on they took off for the slide toppers. They wanted me to drive it back for this and I refuse to close the slide till it is done. They had it for 4 weeks and I am not going to take drive it back down. I am 2 hours away. I am not happy with them at this point. They did call and said they would be up yesterday or today???? He is here now. Just told me that that gear box did nothing to correct the problem. They cut holes into my Black Plastic underbody to get access to lube it up with White Lithium spray. Now I have holes covered up with Duct tape in the bottom. Slide sounds good. But it is called Beatle Tape the company puts into the slide for weather proof that is what leaked out all over the side of the camper. It looks like caulking. if you pull your slide in you can see it. I would clean it off ASAP so it doesn't do what happened to me.

Good to hear. I will pay attention at end of season - never noticed noise, but slide has only been run in/out about 6 times since we bought it in Sept 2013.

John,

I can't believe what you went through to get the problem taken care of. I would have went postal on the dealer who cut holes in your underbelly. After all that time being lead to believe that they were going to replace parts, they ended up hacking up you trailer with a half ass repair. I am glad to hear that the noise has stopped, though I hate the way they fixed it. Live and learn I guess. I am planning on dropping the rear section of my underbelly to gain access to the slides to see what I can see and lube them up my self. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It sure has helped me decide what to do... Brian

LOl Yes Butyl tape. They just didn't want to take the time to do it right. When I bought the TT that dealer was good and had excellent folks working on it. Now the two partners split and the one that kept it has folks that for one is over worked and are not knowledgeable about anything. I will not be going back to them for anything.
